Dell or Toshiba (notebook)?

Assalamo alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh,

I’m planning on buying a laptop, insha’Allah.

Here are the two choices. I’d like to know which one is better?

Here’s what I’ve been the quotation for:

40 gigz hdd
512 mem (ask for 2 dimm)
24X cd/dvd
64 meg
xp home
integ.
battery
carrying case
1 yr return to depot

WITHOUT WIRELESS CARD (approx $1850)

WITH WIRELESS CARD ($2020)

So I’d like to know which one’s a better buy?

Also, a friend was telling me how Dell only offers 4200 or some number of harddrive which is a bit slower.

So which one’s a better buy?

ps. I’ll mainly be using it for the Internet, MS Office, and to listen to Quran/nasheeds, etc.

get a brand that has local presence in your area.. like gateway or sony cause if anything goes wrong and you have to claim warranty you can be sure of being without a laptop for a month atleast !! unless you are good enuff with the computers that you can fix most of the problems yourself.. :) bet you didnt expect that as an answer.. :D

Dell has no local presence but it has excellent tech support. dell outsources it's warranty work and as a result you get quick service. i've never had to wait over 2 days for a tech come to my house and fix something.

Sadiyah, from the two choices you give i'd pick the Dell simply because the Toshiba is being sold by futureshop and their tech support is lousy. If you buy the dell you'll be covered with their excellent support, futureshop on the other hand has **** support requiring you to wait long periods of time for the whole repair process to finish.

hskhan: Sorry, I couldn't get a chance to read your reply. I already got Toshiba yesterday, Alhamdulillah.

My parents preferred Futures Shop because of the easy interest-free payments, plus it's much more convenient to visit Future Shop if (God forbid) something goes wrong with it.

Also, there wasn't much of a price difference. Anyway, I pray that it works well and doesn't cause any problems, insha'Allah.
