Dell hard drive crash

So I have a Dell Vostro 1000 . Recently I experienced Blue screen of death , and after reinstalling OS and scanning the hard drive , I found out that my hard drive is not more a virgin . Yea , exactly . . . it has bad sectors .

This is slowing down my whole system and I am thinking of replacing it .

My question is , can I use any laptop hard drive in it ? On a website I found out that I have to use SATA . So can any SATA internal HDD will work with my laptop ?

Thanks

Re: Dell hard drive crash

yeah, any SATA HD should work.

Re: Dell hard drive crash

take out the hard drive, look at it .

not ALL "2.5inch" "laptop" hard drives are made equal.. if possible, take it with u when u buy anything.. if on internet, take measurements and compare.. if possible, get the identical drive..

(i speak from many PAINFUL experiences of laptop hard drives where advertised 2.5" drives didn't fit into the VERY precise compartment)

Re: Dell hard drive crash

Oh thanks brother . Nice tip . I’ll be careful . :k:

Btw one tip from my side too . . . Never buy Dell :vivo:

Re: Dell hard drive crash

i *actually *prefer dell.. my experience with their desktops was quite ok .. own one old laptop from them too .. and family friends pretty much have dell in their households as laptops..

i guess there are bad ones in every company :-)

Re: Dell hard drive crash

  • Low-level formatting should take care of bad sectors and mark them bad. But overall its better to replace the drive (long run issue). Ofcourse if its an older laptop (or if you have financial constraints) you may wanna go this route
  • A 2.5" SATA is a 2.5" SATA.
  • The good things with most Dell laptop is the accessibility of the hard-drives. One screw or 2 and u can have ur drive in ur hands.
