Anyone do their walima after their honeymoon? Is that weird? It’d be a month after the wedding. Because of Ramadan and work, etc.
Re: Delayed walima
I know someone who has wedding in UK n after few months like 2 or 3 they came to pak n have proper walima
Re: Delayed walima
Yes! I did, someone had their valima a few months after their wedding. She was pregnant too.
Re: Delayed walima
I think the sunnah is to have it within 2 days of the marriage.(not sure)

It seems weird, but every situation is different.

Ohhh ok. Did they dress up proper or was it super toned down? My outfit is heavy and I wanted a dupatta on my head but with it being so late (and everyone seeing me already since I'll be at my in laws for eid) it might be ridiculous to do that.

Yes proper bridal dress jewlary photoshoot everything.
Re: Delayed walima
Yes, it was proper with the dupatta on the head and everything just like you would see on a bride with a valima the next day after the wedding.

Re: Delayed walima
When people get married abroad they have it months later sometimes even a year, depending on circumstances it is understandable.
Re: Delayed walima
My sister's valima was a month after her wedding.
Re: Delayed walima
It is not weird but the better choice was just after the honeymoon. But you can do it in some cases. Thanks

she dressed up as a dulhan?
I'm just kinda unsure of the fact that it'll be after our honeymoon.

yup

My sis is doing residency; so no honeymoon for her.
Re: Delayed walima
I went to a valima where the bride dressed up as a proper bride (heavy suit, duputta on head, fancy event), 4 months after the nikkah/baraat.
Re: Delayed walima
This happens a lot in Canada as families may be from different sides of the country, family in Pakistan has to travel ect. These brides always still do full dulhan look. Some people have an event back home, then wear the same outfit for another Canadian walima. This is a very common situation for North American brides it seems.

that's when we're doing it...

Yeah, my parents just aren't understanding it because it's a new concept to wait that long and then go on a honeymoon before. But I guess it's not a big deal
Re: Delayed walima
I had my proper walima after 2 years. I know it sounds weird but its just how te situation was.
We got married here in the UK where all my family and I live as I point blank refused to get married without all my family and friends. The big day is more for the girl. His mum n brother came from pakistan for the wedding. He also has a few other relatives living here. We had a small walima here the day after wedding, which was put on for my family who came from other cities.
We then didnt get a chance to go back to pakistan for 2 years due to me just starting job and him setting up his business and obviously financial issues.
So went to my susaraal for first time, 2 years after being married. Everyone wanted a party/ walima so dressed up with whole lengha outfit/ jewellery. Had the stage and all but did not wear dupatta on my head as everyone had already come to visit me n also due to the fact that the beautician thought it was so heavy n wouldn't sit on my short haircut.
But all would have been a bit weird if we had a child, don't think I would have done it all then.
Re: Delayed walima
I am the live recent example girls, i got married with a Canadian in Oct 14 and now looking to get my spouse visa done so that we can have valima in Canada, and yes proper valima function with heavy dress and jewellery. i don't know exactly about sunnah but we have to do that as my inlaws mostly relatives are in US and Canada and they all were not able to attend the wedding. but i am feeling good as still i am planning and designing my valima dress and jewellery etc. :)

it may be new concept in Pak but Its not a new concept for the families who live abroad. they don't have any other option instead. I have been on my honeymoon recently and my husband has gone back to Canada but my valima is due even we don't know the date so far.
