Degree/Diploma in Pakistan

I want to pursue a course that has Pashto language incorporated into it. There is no such institution in the UK that teaches Pasho to academic level. i.e you cannot get a diploma/degree in Pashto. My options are either to go the US to Penn University or Wisconsin madison, or Pakistan. I wouold consider Pakistan, only if the qualification would be valid in the west. I heard that degrees gained in Pakistan are worthless in the west and more study is required here. Is that true? Shall i just go to PA/WI?

aadaab bunny depends on degree to degree i think if it is in pashto it is ok everywhere because in peshawer is native speakers. I think your best bet is peshawar especaially for pastoo

Re: Degree/Diploma in Pakistan

Have you checked out the SOAS programs at the University of London…
or is it too basic for what you’re looking for?

SOAS Language Centre - Pashto Beginners Course

Re: Degree/Diploma in Pakistan

BunnyHunny, I would say persue your degree course in any discpline and take an additional course. There are some institutions offering Pushto language course. Even in Pakistan they don't TEACH you in Pushto.

As for "degrees gained in Pakistan are worthless" is concerned, I think you should check your sources. Pakistani's degrees ARE acknowledged, worlwide. UCL & Kings College accept a Pakistani HONOURS graduate equivalent to their undergraduate. Believe me I KNOW. The only people moan about Pakistani degrees being worthless are those who did their BAs & BScs from colleges (2 yrs program).

Oh my God! I am a graduate of SOAS and am currently a University of London student and I have enquired at the SOAS language center about Pashto classes and they keep telling me that they are having problems in locating a teacher for this language and for the mean time its suspended! This link you supplied surprised me. I guess they have found their teacher then. Before, they were advertising Pashto classes, but they were Saturday classes for beginner levels. With this course you provided the link to, it seems they can place you in a class, according to your language ability. Thank you so much!! Ill call them tommorrow.

I thought as much. My father was a Politics graduate from Pakistan and he was told here all the time that his degree wasnt worth anything here or in the US. I know in Pakistan they dont teach you in Pashto, and i guess thats one reason why i would debate going there to learn Pashto, because teaching would probably be in Urdu and the whole thing would just confuse me. I would have to figure out what the teacher was saying in Urdu, for me to be able to understand what a certain word is in Pashto and ARRRGGGHHHHGGHHH. NO no, too confusing. I think ill stick to learning Pashto, with an English instructor. Damn, that means I now gotta get a Visa to the US for my husband! :)
The whole Pakistani qualification thingy confuses me too. This bio metric cular, thingy whatever it is and these different levels of 'diploma'
or whatever. my cousin/brother in law is doing a chemical engineering diploma for two/three years in Pakistan and apparently this would help him get work anywhere in the world......??? I have no idea...

Re: Degree/Diploma in Pakistan

normal route of study

Matric > FA/FSc > BA/BSc > MA/Msc

Professional
Matric > FA/FSc > BS Various / MB BS/BDS - 4/5 Years

Vocational Studies
Matric > Diploma in various discipline - 3 Years(thats what your cousin is doing) mostly start as technicians

this is simple guide to measure various routes of study in Pakistan

Professional studies are recongnised all over the world, but due to less years in Normal route BA/Bsc most students had to take one year top up course to be equal to international grads. Ma/Msc are considered equal to BA/Bsc.

things in BA/Bsc are changing now, they have started to make it 3 year degree courses now.
