Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

The massive 276-run defeat suffered by Pakistan in the first Test in Barbados against the West Indies has already made the PCB officials realise that the team requires the services of discarded fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for Test matches.

"It became apparent in the (Barbados) Test that Pakistan does require the services of express pace bowlers like Shoaib and Mohammad Sami for Tests and that the present attack —while sufficient for one-day games —is not strong enough for Test cricket," a PCB source said.

He said already the discussions had started on a comeback for Shoaib in the home series against England in October and that he should be conveyed through proper channels that he needs to go to Worcestershire and start playing for them. "Some top government officials linked to cricket have also conveyed to the Board that they should start making efforts to Shoaib that there is a place for him in the team provided he also improves his attitude and works hard on his fitness," the source said.

"The scenario is different from few days back when everyone was sure that the team could manage without Shoaib, specially after the latest incident of Shabbir Ahmed again being reported for his bowling action which clearly still needs some working on," the source stated.

Shoaib, the source said, was not considered for the West Indies tour because quarters concerned wanted to teach him a lesson and make him realise that he needs Pakistan cricket and it’s not the other way round.

"But now after the way the bowling was exposed in Barbados these quarters are now accepting Shoaib is needed by the team and should be back provided he removes the reasons for the complaints about his behaviour," the source disclosed.

Pakistan’s bowling came in for some punishment in Barbados specially with leg-spinner Danish Kaneria facing problems against a West Indian batting line-up that has five left-handers in its top order. "Kaneria has never been comfortable bowling to left-handers; he is a much better bowler while bowling to right-handers," the source said.

He also said that the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan, during a meeting with the team management in Barbados, had also stressed on the need for them to try out Shahid Nazir in the Jamaica Test.

"The chairman noted that Nazir had been travelling with the team since the one-day series in India and should have got a chance in the final one-dayer in St Lucia with Pakistan having won the series. He felt that the team management could’ve rested either Rana or Rao and given a chance to Nazir to see how he performs," he said and added, "However he has
now conveyed to the management to consider Nazir for the final Test."

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

Shoaib did decide to spit on their faces and walk away but changed his mind in the best interest of his county commitment, and may be more. (Not to leave on sour note).

^ If it is true, which I doubt ,, then he should now still spit on their faces and walk away,,,,,
let them rely on Shabir & co.

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

haha dude - stop talking about spitting - Shoaib had to swallow his own bitter spite more than anything else... and I repeat and reiterate what Bob Woolmer said as well - we lost cuz of our batting and not cuz of our bowling. Yes - we could have done better in bowling, and we could have used Shoaib if he were truely committed to the team... but we still did fairly well without Mr.-I-think-I'm-indispensable.

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

Shoaib ain’t gonna make it on his own terms. Remember he has been KICKED OUT of the team and has begged to make a come back on record. Whoever thinks PCB will fall down on his knees after a not so crucial (in the absence of Inzi and Yoyo) defeat, needs to read the writing on the wall. Our bowling didn’t let us down, it was our inexperienced batsmen who didn’t deliver it in the first innings.

I don’t understand why PCB will bring Shoaib back for a batting failure :konfused: Its a made up story by Actor’s camp. :stuck_out_tongue:

And “Current attack not sufficiant enough for test cricket…” MY FOOT. The bowler the writer is advocating for is not capable of bowling 3 conssecutive overs or field for 2 hours on a bright sunny day. His stemina is of a charsi. We have seen him short of breath many times on screen.

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

^ You dont get the point man theyre bringing him back because he can bat better than he can bowl.

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

^ :hehe: Good one Chegum.

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

agreed !

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

Defending BigMouth Akhter is a daunting, painful and worthless job, but fairness, justice and Pakistan First requires an objective argument. Take a look at his career statistics and tell me do we have any bowler, any bowler in the current Pakistn camp who can come close to his contributions? Lets not be blinded with our prejuidices and his bigger than the team attitude. I for one want Pakistan to win every match, even if it means including Shoaib Akhter.....

Bowling averages
class mat balls runs wkts bbi bbm ave econ sr 4 5 10
Tests 36 6386 3569 144 6/11 11/78 24.78 3.35 44.34 8 11 2

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

^ Without a doubt, currently he is the best bowler we have, however the problem with him is two fold. One he has an overblown ego and secondly he rarely completes a match without breaking down. Both these factors have an adverse impact on the team morale. Yes, we need him but not at any cost.

Fartguru is making more and more sense in this forum and I think he is good addition to KK, way to go bro, :k:

Ehsan Bhai, All these excuses for a fast bowler who came on the scene and provided his fans (few) a true and lively style of pace bowling never seen before in the recent history of the game?? Your’s and general public’s allegations are rather bazare, trivial and naive. We have talked about it a zillion time already and its deja’vue all over again, :smack2:

The quality standard of the team right now is that of an ‘excellent’ galli ki team.
They don’t have what it takes to ‘plan-carve-sustain-’ a match let alone compete in the WC or top notch super fit teams around us.

My advice is (repeating) to let ‘Shoaib’s’ jinny have the bottle and RIP

Good for Shoaib .. achi baat hai .. zara tarpa tarpa keh maareyn :clown:

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

Statistically speaking, I think Kaneria might have similar or better statistics:

class mat balls runs wkts bbi bbm ave econ sr 4 5 10 **

Tests** 27 7650 3834 126 7/77 12/94 30.42 3.00 60.71 2 10 2

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

Muqabla sakhth hai…Neck 2 Neck

Kaneria is the only strike bowler with Pakistan and he deomonstrated his ability to strike by getting Lara and Chander in the first inning, had it not been his persistence in front of Lara assault, things cud hv been even worse.

Having said that, Sa still has the better bowling average which hurts Kaneria, but for test match cricket both are perfect specialist, strike bowlers.

Re: Defeat makes PCB reconsider Shoaib issue

sharam tumhayn aati nahi, its people like you who put our team down after any loss and when they win “oh, that was a low class opponent”, you can’t appreciate the team’s wins, people like you will only appreciate this team once Shoaib Akhtar joins the team and all of a sudden all losses will seem like a magnificent “fighting” game to you… shame on you.

^ And you expect the ‘singing bird to perch on your green tree some time’ ???

Not with this hypocritical shikari attitude,it won’t happen :clown:

I think shame has no bearings here , its people kike you who won’t give it a rest
and reply to each and every post 'just for the heck of it’ don’t bother to read the
Comments, jump to conclusion and then get involved with “No I did not say that” “check my previous post” “I thought you said this” “statistic this and statistics that crap” ,

I have made it clear time and time after that my vision is always forward looking and is not conceived by the conclusion of a match (My match comments are separate and usually ends with a Pakistani Flag,) ,ankhoun say charbi hataoo,

You have started to consider your self a juror and the judge, and the hangman.
I am far from it and don’t jump to conclusions like you do. Pathetic!

In fact your kind of Armchair critics are the main body of this contagious and vicious plaque that encircles the troubled affaires in Pakistan cricket.

PCB is infested with your kind of ‘wannabes’ Cap10’s and admin.
And that bothers me,

I say Shame on YOU Sire!
