So whats the story behind this girl? She is on CNN.com’s main page. Seems to me that any muslim girl willing to take off her clothes is suddenly the heart throb of western media. Apparently this girl is from Norway, has an Afghan mother and Pakistani father. She is a singer, wears scanty clothes and is now getting the usual death threats. The news article suggests she is immensly talented and is an international star in the making (right right). I tried to find any music audio/video to see whats all the fuss is about, but couldn’t find much.
Actually I found out her website deeyah.com which has some of her music and clips, in addition to gallery. I really don't know why there is so much fuss about her (death threats and all). I didn't see her as anything special, look-wise, music-wise or any thing-wise. I think the death-threat issuers are either totally vaillay, or else she is just trying to garner publicity like this.
umm omg yea i have heard of this woman she had one good song called plan of my own but then i seen in her in other video in which she singing about oppersion and she shows a woman in a burqa and is trying to say this woman is opperesed and then in the end this woman takes of her burqa and has a bikini on and jumps into the swimming pool

She has a hindu name,....which isn't bad by itself....but a Hindu posing as a Muslim makes one wonder...is this a marketing attempt? Ali-G meets music?
Needless to say, this is very old news...and happily, the brit Muslims didn't spaz out this time so she's most likely not going to get any free publicity this time (she really wants to break into the American market).
LATEST: Muslim pop star DEEYAH has come under fire from the leading Islamic council in Britain, which believes the singer is Hindu.
The Norwegian-born star, nicknamed ‘Muslim MADONNA’, hit the headlines this week (21FEB06) when she announced she had received death threats after her latest video featured her stripping off a burka (burqa) to reveal a skimpy bikini.
However, The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) suspects Deeyah is lying about her religion and is actually a Hindu.
An MCB spokesman says, “Her real name is DEEPIKA THATHAAL. That’s certainly not a Muslim name: it is identifiably Hindu. Our suspicion is that this is all a big publicity stunt.”
