Dedicated To Sisters Who Wear Hijab

HIJAAB
What do you see when you look at me
Do you see someone limited, or someone free?

All some people can do is just look and stare
Simply because they can’t see my hair.

Others think I am controlled and uneducated
They think that I am limited and un-liberated.

They are so thankful that they are not me
Because they would like to remain ‘free.’

Well free isn’t exactly the word I would’ve used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused.

They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn’t my choice.

They think that the hood makes me look caged
That my husband or dad are totally outraged.

All they can do is look at me in fear
And in my eye there is a tear.
Not because I have been stared at or made fun of
But because people are ignoring the One up Above.

On the Day of Judgment they will be the fools
Because they were too ashamed to play by their own rules.

Maybe the guys won’t think I am a cutie
But at least I am filled with more inner beauty.

See I have declined from being a guy’s toy
Because I won’t let myself be controlled by a boy.

Real men are able to appreciate my mind
And aren’t busy looking at my behind.

Hooded girls are the ones really helping the Muslim cause
The role that we play definitely deserves applause.

I will be recognized because I am smart and bright
And because some people are inspired by my sight.

The smart ones are attracted by my tranquility
In the back of their mind they wish they were me.

We have the strength to do what we think is right
Even if it means putting up a life-long fight.

You see we are not controlled by a miniskirt and tight shirt
We are given only respect, and never treated like dirt.

So you see, we are the ones that are free and liberated
We are not the ones that are sexually terrorized and violated.

We are the ones that are free and pure
We’re free of STD’s that have no cure.

So when people ask you how you feel about the hood
Just sum it up by saying ‘Baby, its all good!’

I took this poem from islamway…I hope u ppl like it

Re: Dedicated To Sisters Who Wear Hijab

I beg to differ with the lady who wrote this and here are some reasons why.

Well free isn't exactly the word I would've used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused.
Well being cheated on etc, doesnt really depend on whether you wear hijab or a bikini, cause like you say Real men are able to appreciate my mind ad aren't busy looking at my behind, and you gotta find real men, and then the Hijab wont matter will it?
Maybe the guys won't think I am a cutie
But at least I am filled with more inner beauty.
So then you say that if you dont wear hijab you dont have inner beauty? Thats as chauvinistic as you can get.
I will be recognized because I am smart and bright
And because some people are inspired by my sight.
Again if you the all important "it" thenyou will inspire, the clothes dont matter.

Perfect theory, very difficult to back it up with Facts. For example, the unwillingness of Arab countries to give equal voting rights, driving priviliges etc. So it doesnt really fit as a generalisation does it?

As far as violence against women go....may I mention honour killings?

As far as STD goes, well you can find prostitutes anywhere in the world, yes even those that wear Hijab and if they dont get STD that's cause they are very experienced at what they do.
They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn't my choice.

Dont get me wrong...I mean I admire the fact thatthe lady gets respect from her family andf friends and has a contended life, but then in the reverse, how many girls from more orthodox communities have the same benefit, of voicing their opinion, and most importantly excercising choice? I mean the French are idiots for banning scarves, but then can a girls tell her family that she will not wear a hijab and get away with it? It should work both ways shouldnt it?

So for all the proud brothers, will you still be proud if your sisters have the option and chose not to wear the Hijab? Because that is the real freedom.......

My respect goes to the one who makes the choice either way, without fear or coercion and sticks to it.....

^^

Toddy, an owner of a donkey loved it so much that he tried to put Surma in its eyes to make it more beautiful...The Surma hurt the donkey and it said "Ow! Ow! My master has blinded me with this black poison..."

The Hijab is meant for Muslim girls and women, and its psychological, spiritual and aesthectic sense can only be appreciated by them and only they can understand its meaning...

Are you a Muslim in the first place to be commenting on what the Hijab means to the sister who wrote this poem? In what context she said those words? What she means by it? :)

Aslamualikum bros and sisters

JUst to clarify some pints.......i DID NOT WRITE THIS POEM AND IAM A BROTHER BUT I FOUND THIS POEM on islamway....(the website) and posted it here and as u can c from the post title "dedicated it to sisters who wear hijaabs" and so they can appreciate this poem......

Lajawab,

If it is goint to be another direct attack on me, then please excuse, as I really dont want to get into it, nor do I any personal vendetta against you.

If you would like to respond to my comments in this or the previous post, please do so.

I started by saying that these were my points of view, so like the sister who wrote this poem has a right to express her view, I have an equal right to express mine.

When she has presented this poem to the public, that gives the public the right to comment on it. And even though I am not Muslim, I am under the assumption that this is an open forum.

I have been careful not to try and insult to anone, in fact I still say I admire the lady for she is happy with what she has. But then, since she has released her views in an open forum, she or anyone who subscribes to the same forum, would have to defend the views.

Now why is it that instead of countering my arguments, you just decided to attack me personally.

This is a very common technique, where you dont give a counter argument but just insist on attacking the person.

I beg to differ. My point of view is that this poem tries to show the true meaning of freedom and feminine beauty as felt by someone in a Hijab. While at the emotional level, it is very appealing, there are glaring inconsistancies when you apply this poem to Muslim Lands.

Hence, I would like to believe this to be an exception and not a generalisation.

I also find the poem to be very chaunivistic and prejudiced againt poeple not wearing Hijab, of which I know quite a few.

In essence, from the poem, if you are a Muslim sister and dont wear the Hijab (since you claim it applies only Muslim women), then,

a) They are controlled by the men in their lives, and cannot find real men
b) Men make passes at them everytime and always stare at their behinds
c) Can never be beautiful nor have inner beauty,

I mean the list goes on and on....

Make no mistake, as a small ditty made by the person to entertain her friends at home, it is damn good, but when you want to use it as propoganda then it has to stand up to questioning...

WATS WRONG WITH U PPL WHY DO U HAVE TO ARGUE AT EVERY SINGLE THING......
