DEDICATED TO MOLANA RUMI

I often sit and recant
Your mysterious in my heart
Your mercy in it’s many forms
Of which I am a receiving part.

To see what I may see
I catch my breath at the thought
Yet still I venture on this journey
For much joy it has brought.

-Thap

You are ever elusive, like the shimmer from a distant star,
I wait in patience for your light to reach me, yearning from birth to passing,
I am but a grain of sand blown in the winds of your destiny,
Flotsom carried from shore to shore.

-Thap

R_B_B.....but mine I am writing myself.

Thap,
This one is for you.

Whatever pearl you seek,
look for the pearl within the pearl!

The surface of the earth says,
"The treasure is within."
The glowing jewel says,
"Don't be fooled by my beauty
the light of my face
comes from the candle of my spirit."

What else can I say?
You will only hear
what you are ready to hear.
Don't nod your head,
Don't try to fool me
the truth of what you see
is written all over your face!

-Rumi

"Do not seek WATER, for water is all around you. Seek THIRST." ---- Rumi

For without thirst or desire, the object of our desire holds no interest. Our thirst and hunger for knowledge and beauty is in some sense more important than the knowledge and beauty which we seek.

Not immitating.

But writing.
You know I do write as well as read.

But trying to express wonderment and love in words at times is like trying to get a camel through the eye of a needle.

I am just trying to get things in perspective, poetry like philosophy is an individuals duty to themselves.

But this Rumi is okay…no better or worse in verse than you or I, I cannot look into your heart nor can you into mine. But words are just that…words. Feelings are your own to express in the manner of your choosing.

Was my explanation any less of an imitation than my verse?

Words have always existed, some have a talent of arranging them to express their feelings, are these feelings new?

Let me explain through my poetry;

I say I revere you, before I said this did I not venerate you?, I write I admire you, before the ink is dry did I not respect you?

-Thap

I am not deriding anything, but simply adding perspective, please do not take me as being churlish.

Jihad has many forms it is true, but starts in ones heart.

I understand this is not a thread on the validity of Islamic poetry, but through conversing with you I have enjoyed writing my own. I Hope you have enjoyed reading it.

That is why the Heart is the Qibla not Mecca. All the battles against nafs or evils must be fought in one's heart!

In prayers turn inward towards the qibla of the heart.

An important clarification:
The word 'beloved' used by Rumi is referred to Allah.

The 'wine of love' or 'drunken of the wine' that Rumi uses in his writings both refers to Rumi's love & fixation upon pleasing & becoming one with Allah.

Dear RBB & Thapp,
Pls correct me if I am wrong.

More of Rumi...

"Intellect is a man's wings and feathers. If he lacks intellect, then let him find the intellect of a guide... Without the key of the intellect, knocking upon God's door is a result of self-will, not sound motives.

When you are with a shaykh, you are far from ugliness, traveling night and day in a ship. Protected by the spirit of a spirit-
bestower, you sleep in the ship and travel forward.

Do not break with the prophet of your time! Do not rely on your own skills and footsteps! Though you be a lion, if you travel the Path without a guide, you will be a self-seer, astray and contemptible.

Beware! Fly only with the shaykh's wings so that you may behold the aid of his armies! At one moment the wave of his gentleness becomes your wing; at the next, his severity's fire carries you forward... "
