Decoration for christmas

So I’m not in favor of doing any Christmas decoration on my own. But in west its hard to escape from these things completely as ofcourse its one of the most celebrated season. We’ve decorations going on at work place. And within my team they are collecting money from everyone for their share to decorate.

Question: Is it allowed in Islam to contribute whether financially or by any other means for non-Islamic events like christmas etc?

The social aspect of this whole thing is that by doing sorta bycott and not contributing at all will result in muslims’ isolation from the society which is definitely no good.

We had this discussion at our breakfast table this morning. Kids want a Christmas tree. Personally i don’t have an issue, but thought that I might be leading them into an unknown path, as they are too young to maintain a good balance. I promised about the lights in the front yard though.
Technically speaking, the decoration is no longer called Christmas decoration. It’s holiday lights, holiday trees etc. I see no harm in you contributing

Re: Decoration for christmas

Just give them few cents. It’s just decoration, not alcohol etc.

Re: Decoration for christmas

I gave them money cuz they asked but I also said its for new year not for christmas. Atleast to some of my satisfaction.

Still curious though if we are like not totally supposed to do it

Re: Decoration for christmas

I don’t know tbh…I once (had to) donate some toys and gifts for Christmas. I intended it to be a charitable gesture…nothing more than that.

Re: Decoration for christmas

I am not sure if I have the answer myself because as I began to look for answers, I realized I needed to answer some other questions first:

  1. How did the prophet (SAW) engage and disengage with the celebrations and festivities of Makkans before and after his prophethood?
  2. Does the financial contribution directly promote/support evil (e.g shirk), or merely buy only decorative items?
