Decorating Ideas

Sooo…I am in a one bedroom apartment that is really nice Alhumdulillah. I feel like I should be decorating…BUT

Decor…I think that’s my weakness actually.

What are some ideas you guys can suggest that are not so hard on my pocket (this is after all a rental) but do add charm as well as functionality to small spaces?

I want ideas for wall decor (bedroom especially), bathrooms and living room center tables.

Re: Decorating Ideas

Ikea? The 2015 catalogue is out. Sisters and I revamped our room recently and got some knick knacks from Ikea. Good stuff if you do not want to much on a rented home.

Search the hashtags #ikeahacks and #ikeastyle101](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=ikeastyle101) on Instagram and check out the account ikeausa for inspiration. They update their Instagram often.

Perhaps buy small flower pots from Ikea and have them around the home.

Get framed paintings to put in empty walls, or even print family pics or wedding pics and frame them.

Decorating Ideas

Add a nice medium sized wall mirror somewhere. Invest in a good carpet and have it in the living or dining room. Or opt for cheaper Ikea rugs!

Re: Decorating Ideas

we have tenants come one after the other in one of our flats and it has proven to be one lucky flat coz almost every tenant that follows , decorates it so freaking well ! We have seen a black and white combination, a red combo, a blue one and a green and purple one and a grey one.

In all the combo’s the common factor was a wall paper in the middle with the similar colored plain paint on each sides ( on the same wall) , A rug , nothing too fancy. A pair of cushions on the couch. May be a painting in similar colors , a few vases.

In some decors I saw them use accent shade curtains, the lamp shades , floor cushions etc ..

Re: Decorating Ideas

I guess for you, you should first have a think about what color theme you would like in your living room and your bedroom. Once decided, think of a budget and accessories you will want. For example , two rolls of wall paper + one pot of paint. One rug + pair of lamps or vases . pair of cushions or boudoirs etc

Dont have to decide everything in one go. Go to different stores and check out the prices and see what suits your budget more. Sometimes little cheap things like candle holders can make such a different to the decor of the room .

Re: Decorating Ideas

With rented property, whatever do-up you decide to do, make sure you can take it with you.

Curtains. They change the look and feel of a room instantly. As do complimenting cushions. Wall art e.g. canvases. Paint, wall papering etc is an option, but I would not spend too much money on it as aap ka apna nuksaan (kharcha) hota hai, and it can get quite pricey (especially wallpaper).

Mirrors. Candles. Decoration pieces. I don’t know where you live, but I love TK Maxx here in the UK for home stuff - they have the best decorative pieces like candle holders or vases. Artificial flowers, if chosen nicely, can also add a splash of colour and change the look and feel of a room.

ooo - and throws!

Re: Decorating Ideas

Actually I dont agree with nnabid regards the wall papers .. you dont have to use the most expensive ones , but it is the quickest non expensive manner to liven up a place. I just recently did a room with accent wall paper and paint. and it only cost me £30.. I got two rolls of wall paper for £20 and cost me £10 for a pot of paint. The accent wall looks great. Rest of the things that you choose to decorate the room with can be those things that you can take with you , if you decide to move.

Re: Decorating Ideas

wallpapering is not allowed in rented apartments in the US…heck, you can’t even paint unless you pay the apartment to do it, and that too on one accent wall. reha…there is a removable wall paper on the market now, that is marketed especially for renters, but i have no experience with it personally.

the best way to spruce up an apartment is through accessorizing (throw pillows, area rugs, curtains and interesting decor objects)..check out pinterest and houzz to for style inspirations

Re: Decorating Ideas

Wallpapering isn’t allowed in UK rental properties either generally, but most tenants and landlords tend to have some kind of non formal agreement that as long as the property is left how it was at the beginning of the tenancy then it’s fine. Basically it comes down to whether the tenant wants to strip wallpaper and repaint the walls when they move out.

Wall decals can be a good alternative though and easily removeable.

Re: Decorating Ideas

Exactly what Brit chick said, usually the tenants just ask for permission and the landlords do grant them the permission is many cases. But that is a totally different issue. I like the decal idea as well .. I think they work very well in the decor world

Re: Decorating Ideas

Not sure about that. Landlords don’t give permission for anything other than neutrally painted walls in the majority of cases. As Brit Chick said, if they do allow it, it’s with the proviso that the tenant repaints in neutral colours before they leave which is a hassle.

Curtains, cushions, throws, nice lamps and lampshades, colour-coordinated accessories for the bathroom - plenty of things you can do.

Re: Decorating Ideas

Makes we think my husband and I are the odd ones out then ! coz we allow them to make one wall changes in each room , if they sign up for a year. and then we dont make changes if the tenants leave , unless the wall paper is damaged or the tenant asks for it.

Re: Decorating Ideas

I let my tenants redecorate within reason too, with the understanding that it’s all repaired back to lovely magnolia at the end of the tenancy. I think it encourages tenants to stay longer if they become a bit more attached to a place by decorating it how they want.

Decorating Ideas

The norm here in residentially property management that I follow for my tenants as well those of my clients is that they can change paint color provided they 1) use a vendor/painter from my approved list 2) return the paint color to how it was when they move out (or else I deduct from their security deposit)

I don’t allow any permanent fixtures to the walls (wallpaper included), and if they are wall mounting a tv or some sort of bookcase etc, at the time of move out the wall repair/patching/puttying is deducted from the deposit as well.

I’ve never had anyone complain, nor does this policy detract tenants…out of the 5 rental properties I personally own, 3 tenants have been with me for 5+ years and the other two signed 2 year leases right off the bat

also, in the US, apartments complexes are very different then renting a house from an individual landlord, where there may be some allowances
