Hi everyone
Just wanted some ideas on how to decline a party invitation? Northing formal..
My colleague just text me asking if I wanted to go to the work Xmas party and to be honest I don’t really want to go. There will be alcohol there and even though there might be some veggie dishes, im not sure how they will be cooked so I would rather avoid it..
Any ideas please?
Thanks
Re: Declining party invitation
Text back saying, "thank you, i already have other plans". Now those plans may include sitting at home watching a movie but they don't need to know :p
Re: Declining party invitation
Just tell them you have other plans. plans with the family usually that works fine. You could tell them that u are not comfortable with alcohol and all that jazz but then you might have to explain further .. your choice!
Re: Declining party invitation
They're a nosey bunch so if i say i have other plans, they will come back with "what other plans?" lol i just want to keep it simple and easy so they dont bug me about it
Re: Declining party invitation
^I get u! I have been through that. Best take is to say "I have plans with the family" if they ask further abt what plans, keep a straight face, look them in the eyes and say calmly "They are personal, thank you!"

Thank you for the invitation. I really appreciate your consideration, however I had made prior commitments/plans for that day. Nevertheless, I hope your party is a blast :)
Re: Declining party invitation
thanks guys
just said got plans with family do that weekend - think that keeps it vague yet a polite no lol lets hope they dont bug me too much
gosh why dont they understand how uncomfortable it is to be in an alcohol based place where the food might not even be edible!
I normally tell them upfront that I will not be able to attend with REAL reason instead of "oh i have other plans" (technically a lie unless you create a plan for that day :) ). Just let them know that there will not be much in the party for you and if they still want you to come back from party starving, sure you can come.
I have found local people very accommodating on these issues. Couple of times, they actually put the fish on menu just for us other times, I just told them the reason for not coming.

Re: Declining party invitation
^ I understand. I would love to give them the real reason but they're not very understanding people and will just go all snooty on me, its weird.
