Oh yeah forgot that.
My cousins goes to AKU and Hamdard.
Qaid-e-Azam University
NUST is the best university in Pakistan right now, that actually has a faculty and a wide range of disciplines… It is ranked as the best university right now in Pakistan by both CNN and Asiaweek in their own surveys…
It is affordable, and thanks to the Ministry of Sciences and Technology, virtually all students are on scholarship. The entrance test is tough, since candidates from all over the country apply, and only about 50 pe class are selected, out of thousands. They also have a few seats reserved for students from backward areas in Pakistan.
Another new engineering college that is really good is CASE. Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering. Even though they are not as good as NUST, and have lesser funds, tiny campus, the teachers there are awesome, most of them are PHDs from Caltech and Georgia Tech, Imperial. Its alot better than institutes like GIKI, where there is a dire lack of faculty right now. The only sad thing is, they have not yet introduced their undergraduate programme, and only concentrate on higher studies, in specialized fields, mostly pertaining to DSP (Digital Signal Processing). People associated with the creation of the worlds densent media processor are also part time faculty there. Also, almost half of the computer faculty in NUST also teaches part time here. They include prominent names like Dr. Major Shoiab Ahmed (The brains behind Avaz Networks), Dr. Saeed (The Robotics expert in Pakistan), Dr. Farrukh Kamran (whom I have worked in a project with and found him to be an excellent teacher) etc

Sadly, it is in a bad shape right now. They need to pay more attention to it, and allocate more funds. Even though their department of Mathematics produces one of the best mathematicians in the world, alot of their faculty has left for greener pastures abroad, party because of financial problems they faced while teaching here. It is ideally located, and can be completely revamped. Alot of the institutes that were previously affiliated with it have their own university stutus, and some of them are even doing better right now.
I would agree with the GIKI presnt crisis pointed out by Spock. Actually faculties dont prefer going there coz the Area is remote.
I would say LUMS, SSUET (sirSyed university of Eng gand Tech), FAST, NUST... well there are quite a few actually. Depending upon area of study :)
Good to know that there are good skools in Pakistan.
What is the stuandard like, I mean equivalently: ie:
Pakistani BA = A levels
Pak MA = British BA
Pak Ph.D = ???
What is it like?
Thanks.
wot the heck is GIKI?

Standard Government University rankings of PK
Pakistani BA/BSc = HND (UK)
Pakistani MA/MSc = B.A/BSc honours (UK)
Pakistani MPhil = M.A (UK) - M.A honours (Australia/Newzealand)
Pakistani Ph.D = Ph.D (anywhere in the world)
A degree from LUMS, GIKI, UET, NED, FAST etc etc

how about in terms of canadiann education system?
Rehaaan,
The trend is now coming up that people prefer go to LUMS or FAST & their degrees are accept as they are all over the world.
Rest were Unis like Punjab University, sindh University etc etc. There Degrees have less value. Check with ur University in Canada & they will tell what is there acceptance level of Pakistani Universities.
The figures I mentioned above are from UCAS (UK) & Univesities Board of UK.
which field r u talking abt?

Sadly, what you just mentioned is a rumour... I remember when I was doing my olevels, people used to say it was equivalent to FSc, which is not true, its equivalent to matric, and alevels is equivalent to FSc, like it should be... As for the bachelors in Pakistan, it is equivalent to the undergraduate degree in the US, if the college is good.

I wish they would have made GIKi in the outskirts of Islamabad, then it would have been an excellent place to study, and I am sure it would have retained the faculty it lost due to the remote location.

FAST and LUMS were both three year colleges a uptil a while back... GIKI and NUST have been the only proper 4 year colleges throughout...
