good idea... now, why didn't I think of that? maybe because I'm a GUY...
but I'm more than happy to put myself up for adoption though. would love to be adopted by any of Buffett, Gates, Munger, Tiger Woods, Paulson, Jim Simons, etc...
Re: Decent background
ok so sara516, as far as "decent background", there you go....
Re: Decent background
A decent background is a family that have good moral values, have good looks/genes :halo:
has money BUT do not show off.
I know this family - I really consider them VERY decent. They are so RICH but they are all down to earth people. No flashy jewelry, clothes, talks etc. The women of the family does not matter what age from 8 years to 90 - they all dress up so nice and simple in hijab. If they wish, they could flaunt their money - but they don’t.
^That’s decent.
I would say a decent background is a lot of what has been mentioned here. At least moderate community standing, no scandalous background, fair amount of religious or moral thinking, some educational background.
But an important point is also how they interact or communicate with each other ie within their own family as well as extended family. That really shows how they are able to deal with "outsiders" such as a potential in-law family. This is crucial because in case there are any problems between the husband and wife, can you count on the family for decent and sensible support?
Re: Decent background
generally speaking, we are judged by our mannerisms, which is a reflection of our upbringing which in turn speaks of our family background, decent or otherwise.
Re: Decent background
I married a man whom I thought was decent because he prayed 5 times a day sometimes tahajud also , fast , do taraweeh , reads Quran and has multiple masters degree. That was "decent" in my point of view but neither he proved himself to be a decent husband nor a decent father to my daughter. All that glitters is not gold.
Re: Decent background
diamond321.....I feel for you.
It's so difficult to use any sort of bar to measure......money means nothing, looks mean nothing, relations mean nothing.
In the end it all gets left behind.
Re: Decent background
by strictly superficial means, i would say my in laws are "decent" people (educated, 'close' etc) while...my family...uh.
Re: Decent background
A decent family has....
1)** Education:** Like some families where almost all the siblings, parents and their siblings are highly educated doctors, lawyers, engineers, economists, bankers, professors etc.
2)** Wealth:** Not a crucial part of decency, but families with the afore-mentioned educational backgrounds are usually financially sound (upper middle class)
3) ** Values: **They need to have good moral values reflected through actions. They are usually religious in actions, but liberal in thought (accomodating). Lending a helping hand to friends and family, doing public or community service, working for causes, treating their servants nicely etc.
4) *Legacy: * The family name also counts as in the great imprint of character and moral values their elders left while being in positions of power.
Having said that, I still think an individual's decency can sometimes surpass all these background requirements. Some people may belong to very decent families and yet not be decent, others may not belong to decent families at all, and yet be very decent.
By your definition, some of the ladies here will become indecent. That’s no so thoughtful of you.

If this is your definition of decency, man are you missing out on some great people. Ok, #2 I agree with.
But legacy and wealth?? Give me a break. Some of the biggest jerks come from the biggest name and wealthiest families of Pakistan.
Take Mr. Zardari for example.
Great name, great legacy, great wealth.
And he is a murderer, and plunderer.

I guess you forgot to read the last part. The outliers, that is.
