Debit/credit card/cash while traveling?

I just wanted to know, what do you guys do in terms of spending while in Pakistan/India.
As it’s not really safe to carry around too much cash in some areas, I’m just wondering if debit is now widely used in most places?

What do you usually do while travelling in terms of money? And in case you need to withdraw more?

Me and my husband will be going to Karachi for a month and we are thinking of opening up a bank account in Canada (most likely Habib) and then using debit or withdrawing cash as needed. Is this a good idea?
Last time we went we were constantly withdrawing money from ATM’s and it always felt risky. Any good tips or suggestions?
Also is Habib bank good or anything else better?

Re: Debit/credit card/cash while traveling?

I take a little cash, but mainly withdraw from ATMs in local currency as and when needed. Just make sure you inform your bank that you'll be travelling abroad in case they suspect fraud and block your card. I learnt that the hard way :(

very good advice, indeed.

you may also wanna try using the old fashioned way...taking some traveler's cheques to be safe from electronic fraud with your debit or credit cards.

Re: Debit/credit card/cash while traveling?

I usually keep cash/debit/credit cards but as suggested, you MUST inform the banks with yr travel dates and places. Now it still is a bit uncertain. For example, just last week i was in khi and i invited my folks (around 20) over there to one of the lavish restaurants at seaside but guess what, when I reached there saw a big note , "no debit or credit cards accepted".. I was totally stumped wut to do as all the guests were already there ordering the appetizers lol. Luckily I had got enough cash to foot the bill otherwise i might hv ended washing dishes :(
