Can someone plz tell me as to why some people argue that the hijab is not obligatory upon women?

A non-muslim asked me why some people think the hijab is obligatory and others dont. I didnt know what to tell her.

Plz keep in mind im not asking you what your beliefs are on this matter…im simply asking for the opposing view.

well for sunnis following sunna and hadith, covering up is required as crescent mentioned above
but those who believe only Quran as the true intact word of Allah, and hadith non reliable because of human interation in their writing, then hijab is not compulsory because it is not clearly defined in Quran…putting veil over ones body do not mean over ones head:)
