Re: death

Agreed i dont have anything to say as per the fact i am not an Alim i shall have to await what my more learned brothers and sisters say on the matter.

As for myself i hold the view that you reap what you sow... we are all to be judged but we dont have to sit in the docks in shame.

Re: death

We are told to pray for Allah's mercy and fear his wrath. Remember death all the time as it keeps you away from worldly affairs. Life is the time you spend during your transit on airport. That lounge is a waiting area not our destination.

As for death, it calls every living person two times a day as per hadith.

Re: death

Since you want Refs .. I shall get back to you .. but i bet Psyah will get here before me ..and if he does ... I agree to his Info that he shall provide :D

Re: death

im waiting

Peace tigerlilly

There are plenty of places to learn about death. Yes, it is painful and yes to all the scary things but there are some 'good' things to look forward to for Muslims - we will meet our Lord. We will (by His Mercy) enter paradise. Now I will not waste time giving you info about 'death' - they are easy to find references ...

What would be more beneficial would be this hadith:

Ibn Abbas (ra) said:
The Prophet (salalahu alahi wa salam) was giving an exhortation or advice to a man, so he said to him

**"Take benefit from five before five: **
**your life before your death, **
**your health before your illness, **
**your spare time before you get busy, **
**your youth before your old age **
**and your wealth before your times of poverty." **

(Haakim 4/306)

I thought amazing when I first heard this ...

Each line is linked and each element is a key.

So we need to take benefit from 5 things before 5 other things afflict us.

a) we need to make good use of our life before death afflicts us
b) we need to make good use of our health before illness afflicts us
c) we need to make good use of our time before being occupied afflicts us
d) we need to make good use of our youth before old age afflicts us
e) we need to make good use of our wealth before poverty afflicts us

From this at this level we see that we can;

a) give charity or spend in God's way before we get too late with poverty
b) when we are young we can do more things that are good and that will set us on the right path
c) if we use our time for good things instead of wasting time
d) healthy people can do more good for others
e) all of these previous points constitute making good use of our life

Now look at the connections !!!

True wealth is our health and youth and time
True health is by not being concerned about wealth and with time to spare we can say a youthful person is a healthy one

Basically here ... spare time, youthfulness, wealth and health make-up the elements of 'life'.

Solution to the problem of being unprepared for life

Give Charity - When we give charity our wealth increases, hence poverty is delayed or averted.

Study in Youth - By making good use of our minds when young will increase our mental tolerance and hence old age is delayed or averted

Plan and Pray - By being organised we can end up making more of the time we have, hence being busy is delayed or averted.

Exercise and Diet - When we are feeling well we can exercise - this may tire us out at first but in the long run we get fitter and healthier it builds our immune system and hence illness is delayed or averted

Put it all together, Reflect and Supplicate - Our life is more than an animal life, we must reflect and ponder on our Lord and remember Him, we should ask for a long life with all the above elements in it to maximise our gain. Then when it is time to go we will be prepared for it. Also remember, hence all those things will delay and avert death - spiritual death - and by doing those things we live forever and avoid multiple deaths in hellfire.

So study, gain knowledge understanding and then bear witness (Shahdah), plan and pray (Salah), give charity (zakat), exercise and diet (sayam) and put it all together, reflect and supplicate (Hajj)

Don't you think this hadith is so powerful? SubhanAllah!

So you see that the 5 pillars of Islam helps us delay or stop the 5 problems, of povery, old age, lack of barakah in time, illness, and early death or unprepared death.

These are all worldly problems ... but Islam helps us succeed in the Hereafter as well ... So all of a sudden we see that by doing these things we will:

Gain in this world and in the Hereafter ...

And May Allah (SWT) make this happen. Ameen.

(Does this comfort you? If so, please act upon it and pray that Allah (SWT) forgives me, for I need your du'ahs)

Re: death

The severity of death varies from person to person. a believer feels the pain similar to the hair that is taken out from flour by a finger. Whereas, the disbeliever feels so much pain that it is impossible to describe. If a person explains to you the life after death in the grave of a pious person and you feel scared, then the person must be lying. And if he is explaining to you what happens to a disbeliever/disobeyer (without repentance) and you don’t feel scared, then again he must be lying.

I would start with a very common hadith that you would find.

Once, the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam came to the Masjid for salaah, when he noticed some people laughing and giggling. He remarked, “If you remembered death, I would not see you like this. Think of your death often. Not a single day passes when the grave does not call out: ‘I am a wilderness, I am a place of dust, I am a place of worms.’ When a believer is placed in the grave, it says; ‘Welcome, it is good of you to have come to me. Of all the people walking on the Earth, I liked you the best. Now you have come in to me, you will see how I entertain you.’ It then expands as far as the occupant can see. A door from Paradise is opened for him in the grave and through this door he gets fresh and fragrant air of Paradise. However, when a evil man is laid in the grave it says; ‘You are not welcome here. Your coming into me is very bad for you. Of all the people walking on the Earth, I disliked you the most. Now that you have been put into me, you will see how I treat you!’ It then closes upon him so much that his ribs of one side penetrate into the ribs of the other. As many as seventy serpents are then set upon him, to keep biting him until the day of resurrection. These serpents are so venomous that if one of them happened to spurt its venom upon the earth, not a single blade of grass would ever grow.”

Hazrat Ibrahim alaihis salaam asked the angel of death to show him in which form he visits an evil person. Angel of death replied, “You will not be able to tolerate the sight.” Hazrat Ibrahim alaihis salaam insisted, the angel of death told him to turn around, while he transformed himself. After which he told Hazrat Ibrahim alaihis salaam to look. Upon seeing him he fell unconsciousness due to the pitiful sight. Thereafter, Hazrat Ibrahim alaihis salaam remarked that the sight was so horrifying that just looking at him was enough punishment for the evildoer.

There is a bind between the body and the soul. This can be explained by portraying the attraction between two magnets. It is hard to pull them apart, likewise, the attraction of the soul to the material body is more due to the love of the materialistic world. In other words, the more the magnetic field in both the magnets, the greater the attraction will be. Similarly, the more the love towards the worldly life, the greater the pain of pulling apart of the soul from the body will be.

Imaam Ghazzi rahmatullahi alaihe explains, that the soul is removed from the body in stages (as mentioned in the Holy Qur’aan): it is first taken out from the feet followed by the shin and then the thighs after which the chest is affected and at that moment the power of speech is lost. When the soul is taken from the throat, the faculties of sight and hearing are exterminated.

There are two things here. Firstly, the pain felt at the introduction of death. Secondly, the pain felt at the extraction of the soul. Here the latter is implied.

The severity of death has been mentioned in numerous Ahaadith, some of which are as follows:

  1. Hazrat Anas Ibn Malik radiyallahu anhu has reported that Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam had mentioned that the grasp of Malikul Maut is more severe than one thousand hacks (cuts) with a sword.(Sharhus-sudoor)

  2. There is a narration regarding Hazrat Moosa alaihis salaam that he was questioned by Allah after death about how he had undergone the experience of dying and he replied that it could be described as the case of a live bird being put in to a hot boiling pot of bubbling oil.

  3. In another narration, Hazrat Moosa alaihis salaam is reported to have replied that the experience was like that of a goat being skinned alive by a butcher.(Sharhus-sudoor)

  4. It is narrated from Shaddad Ibn Aus radiyallahu anhu that there is not as much pain, torture in being spilt by a saw, shredded by scissors or scalded by fiercely boiling water than in experiencing death.

  5. Hazrat Abu Qatadah radiyallahu anhu reports that Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam said that all distress, displeasure and agony at the time of death can be likened to that of an ant-bite.

Re: death

The intervening period between the death and the resurrection on the Day of Judgement is called ''barzakh.' The world of ''barzakh' is tiny compared to this world. In barzakh, some live in comfort and happiness while some live in suffering and pains. The soul of a Muslim after his death is treated, during the barzakh, in accordance with his deeds and spiritual standing. Different souls, therefore, are kept at different places according to their status.

It is reported by Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu that the Most Beloved Prophet of Allah, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala ' alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said that when a believer's soul is taken away then the Angels bring white silken clothes from Paradise and say. ''O Soul! Come out of the body. Allah is pleased with you and you are pleased with Allah.'' So the soul comes out and it has perfume better than musk. Then the Angels welcome it and smell its perfume, till they bring it to the door of the door of the first Heaven. The Angels there also talk about the fragrance of the perfume. The Angels say this at each Heaven until it is brought to the seventh Heaven where the believers soul rests. They talk about the troubles and grief he endured in the world. When an unbelievers soul is being taken away, the Angels of punishment bring blankets and ask the evil soul to come out and face punishment of Allah. The Angels tell him that he was not pleased with Allah ta'ala and Allah ta'ala is not pleased with him. Eventually the soul comes out smelling worse than a rotten dead body. They take his soul to the seventh door of the earth where the unbeliever's soul rests.

The Dead Know and Can Hear :

Hadrat Abdullah ibne Umar Radi Allahu anhu stated that the Most Beloved Prophet of Allah, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam came to Ahle Kaleeb (the well in whch Abu Jahal, Ibne Hisham, Umaiyah bin Khalak, Utba bin Rubaiyyah and Saiba ibne Rubbiyah - all the Kafirs of Makkah were thrown into) and said, '' Did you obtain the true call of your Rab-Allah?'' Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam when asked by the Sahaba-e-Kiram (Allah be pleased with them) if he talked to the dead, replied,

''They hear better than yourself but are unable to reply.'' (Bukhari Shareef)

Hadrat Abu Sa'id al-Khudri Radi Allahu Ta'ala anhu narrated that the Most Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said that:

the dead ones recognise those who give ghusal (bathe) to their bodies, shroud them, carry them to the cemetery and lower them into the grave. (Tibrani)

Hadrat Abu Qatada Radi Allahu anhu has narrated that the Most Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said,

'' When you are a custodian of any dead, give them a fine shroud because they visit one another's place and meet one another.'' (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Baihaqi)

Hadrat Anas Radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Most Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam stated that:

when the relatives and freinds of the dead leave the graveyard after the burial is over, the dead body in the grave can hear the sound of their shoes and footsteps. (Bukhari)
