Death on the pitch

I’m sure most of you have heard about the sad incident that took place in India over the weekend when Cristiano Junior (a Brazilian striker) playing for Dempo against the famous Mohun Bagan in the final of the Federation Cup, DIED less than 30 seconds after scoring the winning goal. In the process of scoring that goal he collided with the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper, Subrata Paul, and fell to the ground. Nobody seemed concerned as the knock looked fairly ‘routine’, run of the mill stuff. Celebrations soon turned sour, when the refree frantically signalled for the doctors and an ambulance while teammates frantically fanned their shirts in an attempt to get some fresh air to Jr.

Now, Dempo (the team that Cristiano Junior played for) is asking for charges of ‘Criminal Negligence’ to be brought against the Subrata Paul, the goalkeeper. Surely this can’t be right? The goalkeeper was just doing his job, right?

Do you think it is right for Dempo to proceed with the charges against the goalkeeper?

Unless the goalkeeper was blind, i don't think there is an excuse that can bail him out of this situation.
btw, what was a brazilean soccer club doing in india anyways?

He was not playing for a Brazilian club. 'Dempo' is an Indian club from Goa (yes, believe it or not there are a lot of foreign players plying their trade in India).

Doctors suspect cardiac arrest but since they are not 100% sure, they are conducting a post mortem. His heart has been sent for an histopathology test as only this will reveal the exact cause of death.

The local police has ruled out 'foul play' on the part of the goalkeeper and will not be making any arrests based on the complaints lodged by the Dempo club officials.

It really is a sad story!
