Not quite sure about the costs for a funeral in Vancouver, but here in Ontario basic funeral costs from the masjid are around $4,000.00 and higher depending on if you’d like a headstone and such.
My mother died in Canada (Ontario) a few months ago. We burried her here but with great opposition from the family in Pakistan who wanted her flown back.
Our masjid offers a GREAT funeral service. They basicaly took care of everything. They had transported the body from home to the masjid where we ourselves washed her for the burial. The janaza was at the masjid and from there she was transported in a hearse to the cemetery. The masjid has bought several hundred plots at the cemetery so that is where she is burried (muslim side of the gora cemetery). We paid the masjid a total of $3,500 for this complete service. We then bought a headstone from the cemetery for an additional $2,500. So this was our total cost. There are still some outstanding items regarding the house, income tax and government paperwork so I don’t have the total fee for that yet.

my dad is buried in Canada and it was roughly around 4K.
ps. it is cheaper to bury in the country where you die rather than transporting the dead body to your home country because embalmment is an expensive procedure and also if we look it from Islamic perspective it is very mortifying for the deceased.
ps2. I heard now they also have skype service to show the last service around the world.
Not sure if people are aware, but PIA does offer free transport of dead body to Pakistan from Canada/USA (wherever they fly to).
The local Pakistani diplomatic missions can assist in this regard as well.
But yes that will add time to the funeral/delays. With smartphones at least people can skype/viber for free and participate from long distance or view funeral
Its not entirely fee. There is an “admin” charge to transport the “cargo” sigh we took my dad when he passed away he from the uk to khi. I would have preferred him to be buried here but yeh.
