Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

On This Day 4th of April 1979.

He was a good politician but was too power hungry. Had he relinquish power in his last election I am sure he would have been re-elected latter..

1979: Deposed Pakistani PM is executed

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, has been hanged in spite of international calls for clemency.
Mr Bhutto, 51, who had been Pakistan’s leader since 1973, was deposed in an army coup 18 months ago.

He was sentenced to death for the murder of a political opponent following a trial which was widely condemned as unfair.

The appeal process was also tainted by allegations of bias on the part of some judges.

No advance warning of the execution had been given.

Mr Bhutto’s wife and daughter, Benazir, who are both under house arrest, visited him on the morning before his death.

They had been told it would be their last meeting but the military regime, led by General Zia ul-Haq, continued to deny an execution was imminent.

** Autocratic leader **

Few details have emerged of the circumstances surrounding the hanging but it is believed to have taken place at 0200 local time (2100 GMT, 3 April) in the Rawalpindi district jail in north-east Pakistan.

Pakistanis learnt of Mr Bhutto’s death when it was announced on state radio at 1100 local time (0600 GMT).

Shortly after his execution, Mr Bhutto’s body was flown to his home village in the Sind province and buried in the family plot.

His wife and his daughter were not permitted to attend the funeral.

Another four men convicted with Mr Bhutto of murder remain in prison.

Mr Bhutto, a member of a rich and influential family, was known as an autocratic leader but was respected internationally.

His death looks set to lead to Pakistan’s isolation on the world stage.

The United Nations’ Secretary-General, Kurt Waldheim, said he deplored the decision by Pakistan’s leaders to ignore appeals for clemency.

British Prime Minister James Callaghan, who made a third appeal for Mr Bhutto’s life only yesterday, expressed his “deep regret”.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

the popular consensus by all academics and people at that time is that Bhutto would have won the election with a decreased majority. The problem as I have said elsewhere is the quest for absolute power ..and as the saying goes it does corrupt!

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

I don't have the words to say how sad I feel abt this...Such a great statesman. In overall analysis of his rule, I will say that his foreign policy was excellent and in fact I was reading somewhere that we still follow some of the foreign policy principles set out by Bhutto. His internal policy left much to be desired but that he gave us a constitution and was intelligent enough to look ahead and start work on nuclear side also deserves applause. Overall...he didn't deserve the end he met. Not one bit. The only real politician we had after Jinnah. So sad. So sad.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

A great man murdered by a pathetic moron.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

One of many Bangladesh's heroes across the border.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

one great man with some dangerous moronic aspects murdered by a moron with some good aspects.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

It is hard to deny that he was charismatic, well read and a great speaker. Though a great statesman ... wouldn't be one of his qualities. He had some good ideas when he got elected, like good life for all citizens, but ended up ruining the economic gains of the sixties and politically was as bad for the country as any Army General could be. If he had any loyalty, it was to himself. By the end of it he was in denial ... but aren't all leaders about to reap their doings?

One of the things that constantly plagues our leaders is this obsessive idea that they know whats good for the public than the public itself. Its cultural. They forget how to compromise ... which is so essential for any governance.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Not only that it's highly disingenuous...Bhutto in short was the greatest menace to have befallen in all of South Asia...He was a schizo and an insidious coward...He sucked up to Ayub and referred to him as "Daddy" when Ayub was at the height of his power, but quickly stabbed him inthe back when Ayub's popularity waned, something Bhutto contributed towards immensly by cooking up an ill-advised and utterly failed operation gibralter...he manipulated Yahya by wining and dining him during his Larkana shikaar retreats and had him totally averse to Mujeeb...he usurped Mujeeb's legitimate claim to primiership and threatened to break the legs of MNA's who went to Dhaka to attend a gathering called by Mujeeb...He tore up the Poland resolution, which called for cease fire on the Eastern front in his typical fradulent showmanship, thus sealing the fate of East Pakistan once and for all, he destroyed Pakistan's industrial base and economy by nationalizing private corporations and industries...a profound damage from which Paksitan still hasn't recovered and has allowed our arch-rival India to catch up and leave us behind in the economics race...he introduced nepotism in all nationalized institutions and the rewarding of jialays by enmasse recruitments in entities such as PIA, PNSC, KESE, WAPDA and such...he introduced strong-armed totallitarian tactics never seen in this part of the world by being inspired by his fellow secular-despots and meglomaniacs of the arab-world and his personal affinity/obsessions of Nazis...

Zia's hanging of Bhutto alone is an act that would wash Zia's all other supposed sins and send him straight to heaven...

Mard-e-momin Mard-e-Haq
Ziaul Haq Ziaul Haq...

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Totally concur with Ehsan Bhai, great leader, probably the best politician we've had. Anyone here (ehsan bhai etc) attended any of his public rallies? Care to share the experience?

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Maybe he was the greatest menace to befall to south east Asia, at least he was not Allah's revenge on Pakistan and mankind in the form of Zia, the biggest brainless git ever to have lived in Pakistan.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

You mean hear his profanity and vulgar gaalis in public...

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Right brainless, hmm...Bear Trap, Cricket Diplomacy, Zarb-e-Momin, Khalistan, and a few more facts to make Bhattu supporters go dizzy...

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

how different is that from who do it in private anyway?

on the contrary, I heard a recording of a public speech - a speech written by Maulana Kausar Niazi ...

and bhutto went ballistic in public:

*Inta'llah Shaala *..................

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Loss of siachen, biggest fraud elections in the history of Pakistan "If you love islam I am your president", talk about beign stupid, drugs, klashnikov culture, MQM, the list of this brainless git is unending. Murder of Palestinians in Jordan to please his masters in USA. Some of the gems to keep the supporters of the moron happy.

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

April 4th is also Birthday of another great Pakistani, AbdulQadeer Khan:Salute:

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

And remember his maa behan ki gaalis live on National TV...

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Siachin is an uninhabitable track of land since time immemorial and is probably one of the most inhospitable places on earth, the boundary in this area between India and Pakistan is not demarcated since independence so if all of a sudden Indians decide to occupy it how the heck is that Ziaul Haq’s fault?

MQM…this is the biggest myth ever created in the whole political history of Pakistan…the urban areas of Karachi have always had a strong hold of religious parties, if not the Jamaat Islami, then Noorani’s Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan always did well in the polls…naturally the PPP being the other major party in Sindh had to come up with a strategy to counter this…the solution was MQM…the early patronage/alliances and the slogans of sindhi-muhajir bhai bhai and muhajirs sporting ajrak in the eighties betrays the genesis and raison d’etre of MQM…the biggest losers in Karachi by the rise of MQM were religious parties, who happened to be Zia’s allies, now why would Zia do something to undermine his own constituency???

Kalashinkov culture...a natural consequence of fighting the russians and several terrorist organizations (Al Zulfiqar, MQM, Khaad, KGB, RAW) as well as foregin agencies doing their utmost to destablize Paksitan...if it wasn't for this resistence of the russians, then all the bhattu lovers and other secular degenerates would be speaking russian and downing vodka shots and making prostrations to Lenin and Stalin

And killing Palestinians...you mean those PLO terrorists run amock in Jordan...Allah Zia to aik dafa aur jannat naseeb karay for sending those secular degenerates to hell...

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

APMSO (All Pakistan Muhajir Student Organisation) was created back in late 60's by Altaf when he was a B.Pharm student @ KHI Uni long before Zia ul Haq...

Re: Death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

that was not because of PPP... it was because of G.M. Syed's Jiye Sindh party..
