death - a mystery

it is always heard that we hardly ever talk about death and remember it often very little.

if you would like to share any religious essays on death… to get varied perspectives.

what is death ?
why it comes?
what it means?
where will it take?

apparently simple questions, that we know the answers to from religion, but figuring out death in relation to life, via logic and reason is what is called for, here.

As Iqbal:rehm: said:

Maut ko samjhay haiN Ghaafil, Ikhtetaam-e-Zindagi
Hai yeh shaam-e-Zindagi, Subha-e-Dawaam-e-Zindagi

Islamic perspective on death that I have understood is very simple and logical.

Death is nothing but a transition period between the life in this world and life hereafter. Once all the human souls were created, they are never destined to die.. it’s only the physical body that dies in this world…

It comes because everyone has to go to the eternal life than this temporary. Every temporary thing has an end.

It means exactly what I told above…

It will take us to the life of Barzakh/Qabar where we will await for the day of resurrection.

Reminds me of the hadeeth of the Prophet:saw:, interpretation of which goes more or less like this:

Prophet:saw: said: Hearts get rusted too just as your swords are rusted after a while. The companions (RA) asked**: Oh Prophet of Allah:saw:, when our swords get rusted, we rub them and make them shinny again. Is there a remedy for the rusty hearts as well**?"

Prophet:saw: answered: **“Yes, there is. Reading of Quran in abundance and rememberance of death.” **

Re: death - a mystery

thank you qureshi.

nice explanation.
thank you for sharing it.
indeed quran and rememberance of death is reassuring that a life well lived, in piety and with honesty is has a tribute in a peaceful death.
no one knows, where the feeling soul goes to... yes to its maker, but where and in what physical environment.

does Islam also has an indication of a waiting period in purgatory?

Re: death - a mystery

Soul of a good person goes to place called "Illi-yeen"

And soul of a bad person goes to "Sijjeen"

Both places are mentioned in Quran and their description is in various ahadeeth... I dun remember them exactly.. perhaps some more learned person can share :)

Re: death - a mystery

awwww my souls goin to “illi-yeen”

:layd: how sweet

Re: death - a mystery

Death is nothing but the last and a very important phase of a journey called life..
i.e. a journey from womb to tomb.

Soul is immortal...it was never born and it never dies. Lord Krishna's advice to Arjuna (Shlokas from Shrimadbhagwatgita)

This soul is indestructible incombustible. It can neither be wetted nor dried. It is eternal. It is all-prevading, stable, immovable and everlasting.

The soul is imperceptible, inconceivable and immutable. You should not grieve after knowing this.

Even if you think that the soul undergoes birth and death like a body, there is still no ground for grieving, O mighty-armed.

Re: death - a mystery

and where did you get that from?

Re: death - a mystery

death is a culmination of life, indeed.
and that is why living a fuller, happier, content and helping and helpful life is all the more necessary.

Re: death - a mystery

what is death ?
why it comes?
what it means?
where will it take?

To know answers to these questions, first one needs to know from where did he come from, what is life, why were we sent to this world, what does life means and from where did life come from.

^ After learning the answers to the above questions, your questions would automatically be answered, and for that no real life logic would make any sense as real life logic has yet to expalin the "SOUL"
Only Islam has given answers to these questions in a very good way, but again if one wants proof, one has to taste the death himself, otherwise "Believe" in what makes sense to you.

Bukhari Hadith 1:127

Narrated 'Abdullah:

While I was going with the Prophet through the ruins of Medina and he was reclining on a date-palm leaf stalk, some Jews passed by. Some of them said to the others: Ask him (the Prophet) about the spirit. Some of them said that they should not ask him that question as he might give a reply which would displease them. But some of them insisted on asking, and so one of them stood up and asked, "O Aba-l-Qasim ! What is the spirit?" The Prophet remained quiet. I thought he was being inspired Divinely. So I stayed till that state of the Prophet (while being inspired) was over. The Prophet then said, **“And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the spirit --Say: The spirit – its knowledge is with my Lord. And of knowledge you (mankind) have been given only a little).” (17.85) **
