Thanks for the link to this video. Before seeing the video, I had given Dean Jones benefit of the doubt. After all, many of us are careless when we are amongst friends (and not on-air). Within buddies, we do make politically incorrect remarks (like a guy I know, always referred to pre-reversion Yousuf Youhanna as “chora” even though he loved his batting and was a big Pakistan fan) and no body makes a big deal out of it, except may be a hearty laugh.
In this case, granted Dean Jones was in the commentary box and there is always a chance that microphone will pick up anyone’s side remarks so he ought to be careful, my initial thoughts were that Jones may be making a joke or was in awe of Amla’s fielding to be making that statement (“the terrorist got another wicket”). But the way he said it, and especially using the word “terrorist” is very odd. If Dean Jones had said “the beardo got another wicket”, and considering it was supposedly an off-air comment made in jest, I don’t think it would be this big a deal. But him using the word “terrorist” clearly suggests that he is stereotyping muslims with beards as terrorists.
Very unfortunate. Not just because Dean Jones said it, but also because it clearly tells us what negative perceptions go around about muslims (especially practicing muslims), even amongst supposedly educated and well-travelled people of the world.

You are all laughable. I mean come'on aren't you all Pakistanis? I am sure you have in the past and still do and will continue to make fun of blacks, africans, chinese, Bangaladeshis, and whatever other creature who doesn't look like you. What hipocrates!

How would you justify making fun on TV which is going live to the whole world. No, it can never be qualified as a joke.
And yes, Pakis make fun of others and so do others BUT that is different. How come you can even compare both things.

if a Pakistani commentator was heard saying the same thing about a black, african, chinese or bangladeshi I'd want him out too.
