Dealing with rude work collegues?

Ok, so I have this old gentlemen that has worked in this company I work in. When I first got to know him he seemed like a really nice guy and quite easy to talk to.

However recently he has been abit off handed. For example, while I was working with him a couple of days ago he ran into a old friend (who he apparently knew from such a long time ago!) while we were walking through the office. The three of us stood there for a couple of minutes as they were catching up. The old friend started asking who works in the company now? He said a few names and then finally said my name. He said Ive got a uni degree but I ended up here?!

I was kinda offended I felt like he said after doing a degree I couldnt get a good job. They both laughed. I know this isnt the job I wanted after finishing uni but Im just doing it until I find my niche. I just felt a bit pissed off of how he put me down.

Should I confront him about what he said? And say he should watch what he says about me to others?

Anyone have any stories about rude work collegues?

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

I would say just ignore it. I too get offended at stupid comments my colleagues make at work, but they are friendly otherwise.

Is he a gora? They have the most weird sense of humor i've ever seen/heard, so dont be offended and chill!

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

Part of working life ....

there is well saying for these sort of situation : " Chup rahnay ma Sallamti ha "

Keep quite and ignore him ...

once you get a better job - you will forget it all - think of this as just transition period.

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

I used to work at different places with different people.....but I noticed they had a problem with me because I earned more than all of them....for example I earned 4/5 times more than they did....considering we worked the same number of hours....because of this they would act rudely especially the girls.....and some who were older than me couldnt take it that I earned more.....you could always feel that jealousy there in the majority of these people....well its not my fault that Im more educated than them.....but how do u deal with these people?

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

hmmm na karo aisi battain :(

i have a victim of earning less than my juniors ( not because they had any higher degree )

It happen's in an organization , that the new hiring scale exceed's the existing employee at a position .. Part of Life

You can just make friendship with them , and may be once in a month , have a tea party or some thing trying to compensate ;)

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

I think it's better to just let this go unless it happens again then you should consider having a conversation with him regarding your concerns. Usually people are so stressed out at work sometimes that they don't mean something they way it comes out.

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

Really? You got offended at THAT? Dude, there's no need to get jazbaati over such a non-issue. You're going to face much bigger offenses in your professional life, you need to grow a thick skin. Moreover, I think you're reading too much into it, he may not have been trying to insult you but the contrary as in "he's too good for this place".

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

Exactly :khumar:

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

I earn more because im considered a "professional" and they are not....its not about new hiring etc.... all people in my profession earn 4/5 times more than the average person

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

so if they are average - then they should accept this and should over react.

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

You know what Ahmed! I was thinking the same thing.. maybe I was just feeling a little emo the day it happened. Ive been in worse environments too, but its been a while.

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

I can so relate to this! LP, I just try to be friendly at work, and put up a face and get on with my work. If I have to work with them, I just try to remain professional. The only reason I put up with it is I know its not somewhere I going to stay for long. There's no point in getting on their bad side - it may end up making you looking bad and even getting bad reference. . . moo rakoo!

Re: Dealing with rude work collegues?

I don't get how this is supposed to be rude.
