Dealing with over confident , egoistic colleague

Re: Dealing with over confident , egoistic colleague

The behaviour of others should not dictate how you conduct yourself with others. If you are in the position of advisor then give good advice … as long as you perform in accordance with set duties and expectations are met then that should be enough to be self-assured. A person with a strong personality tried to get me to do his tasks and I said to him “Nice try, but if I do this, then who will do my job?”

We all just need to learn how to deflect annoyance from annoying people away … a secret in life and business is that no one has power over us until we give it to them … being annoyed with someone is type of power that we give away to them …

An annoying person at work - who has left now - used to rub lots of people up the wrong way … He used to say really inappropriate things like “don’t they know anything, who would ask that question? My grandma would not ask that question …” to the client that would make them really boil inside. He tried it with me one day looking at my clothes and said, “What sort of clothes do you call that? We need to get some standards in the office” trying to annoy me … so I said, “Do you have a problem with my dress sense? So what do you want me to do … dress up like you? Hahaha … I’ll give it a miss.”

If you can’t say anything like that then just smile, raise an eyebrow like a disapproving teacher and carry on working …
