Our apartment management sucks. The dryer has not been working for the past week. So I’ve been hanging laundry around the house to let it air dry. Three other tenants also talked to me about this. I called our managers and left a message (they never pick up) and told them to call me back..which they didn’t. My neighbors have also called. One of the other neighbors also has termites! So things around this building have been neglected. Minor repairs have not been done for other tenants despite numerous calls and complaints. My neighbor told me that if nobody comes tomorrow for the dryer then she wants all the tenants to get together and ‘do something’. I’m not sure what she has in mind but I am considering calling the LA Housing Dept and filing a complaint. Apparently this sort of thing has been going on here for quite some time. We just have a bad management company that doesn’t care and don’t want to spend any money on this building.
Last year the neighbor below me had her ceiling collapse on her. It had to be completely gutted, torn down and repaired. A couple weeks ago she told me that when I flush my toilet she hears rapid dripping in her ceiling. Water is pooling up in her ceiling somewhere. Both of us have called management about this and still nothing is done. In light of the Katrina situation this is all so petty. I keep reminding myself that I’m lucky to have a roof over my head, but it doesn’t seem fair for all of the tenants especially those of us with kids to have to take it.
Have any of you dealt with this sort of situation? Am I overreacting to want to take immediate action? Should I just keep calling the management company and threaten them. I don’t want to let this situation go on.
Sue 'em....if you can or change the place. I have been in a situation like that...it really sucks, you have to be very aggreassive with the management. If you have a complaint get on their sorry azz until it is done otherwise they'll put a 'work order' for god knows how long.
You have to call them then go there tell'em face to face until they say the person is on their way to your apartment, that's the only way you'll solve the problem. Until then good luck...
I am considering it belle. My neighbor and I got together today. She has two kids and I have two kids. We are considering getting all the tenants together to sign an agreement..an ultimatum I guess. We will refuse to pay full rent if this goes on. But this idea is still in the works. I called the management office today and spoke with the receptionist who handles maintenance. She said somebody came yesterday to look at the dryer. He didn't do anything yet because she claims he 'might need some parts or something.' She was very vague. When I asked WHEN it would be done i didn't really get an answer. Anyways this is in progress but I do have the number for the city handy incase.
They are delaying the process saimanyc, I just want you to know that...you pay the rent and if you want it done you have to be extra aggressive. I like your idea of getting together with neighbors and filing a complaint but be aggressive and meet them face to face. Don't let them sand bag you and your neighbors otherwise it won't ever get done...hope it helps thanks.
my apartment complex had a fruit fly infestation in the trash chute and a faulty fire alarm in the garage which the manager refused to acknowledge. someone called the city on it, and now there are going to be a set of three inspections - the manager's behind is so on fire.
and meanwhile, there are a bunch of laundromats all over the place, you could try a closeby one.
Yes, that’s exactly what I wanted to do yesterday. I went to that website to see if anyone had rated it, ofcourse nobody had. So I am definitely going to post one soon.
Queer, I know there’s many laundromats nearby, but I’m stuck here with two kids. Besides the issue is that we as tenants are paying rent and deserve to have all facilities that we pay for up and running.
