**There have been speculations that both Atizaz and Khar have fallen from grace. Some suggested that Benanir was unhappy with Atizaz for becoming advocate of the CJ as the tremendous fame and hype he received in media, civil society and people of Pakistan for his role in getting the chief justice restored had overshadowed her own popularity and those of other party leaders. **
The first sign of such an impression was felt during the one-hour long press conference Benazir addressed on July 20 here after the restoration of the chief justice of Pakistan. During all this time she praised the CJ for his defiance, spoke high of the role of lawyers, media and civil society who joined hands to confront the orders of a military general. She took the credit for the restoration of the chief justice when she said her party workers had laid down their lives on July 17 when they were bombed at the rally of chief justice in Islamabad. However, much to the surprise of mediapersons, she said not a single word to praise the fantastic role played by Aitzaz Ahsan in winning the case. This correspondent felt compelled to ask Benazir whether she was unhappy with Atizaz as she had completely ignored him. This ruffled her for a moment but she recovered immediately and made a very brief comment that without party instructions and approval Atizaz could not have become a lawyer of the CJ. However, still there was no word of praise for him.
Edit. Khar denied ticket, but still no decision on Aitzaz.

**PPP denies party ticket to Khar **
LAHORE: The PPP leadership ha refused to give a party ticket to Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar for the general elections 2007 in a meeting in London, The News has learnt. The special meeting held to consider Khar and Aitzaz for party tickets, postponed the decision regarding the latter’s nomination to July 27. Aitzaz, candidate from NA-124 (Lahore), is being tipped as a prospective nomination, despite party’s concerns, because of his growing popularity in the masses for leading the CJ’s cause in the Supreme Court. The decision for his nomination would be taken along with other tickets for Lahore chapter. However, the decision regarding Khar highlighted a serious gulf between Khar and the PPP top leadership. The decision came following strong statements by Khar advising PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto to counterweigh her statements on national issues with the sentiments of party workers and the public. He had mentioned, during a press conference, of growing dissatisfaction within the party ranks due to controversial stance adopted by the PPP chairperson on issues like Lal Masjid. Khar, when contacted by The News, said he was not aware of the recent development, however added that he might have been denied a ticket, since he had caused displeasure of party high-ups for saying what he believed to be good for the party. “If everyone else in the party could say what I do, this would not have happened,” he observed. When asked about his future strategy, he said he could not affirm anything as yet. He said he would contact the party to check into matters.
