deadsoul's Top Three

Re: deadsoul’s Top Three

Amal, thanks for posting this poem full of beautiful imagery. I have tried to translate the poem as follows:

Is It True You Never Remembered Me?

And I never came to your mind!
Even while plucking a rose from a stem?

While putting red bangles on your delicate wrists
Painting your rosy hands with henna
Coloring the corner of your white dopatta red
Rubbing gulal on your cheeks
Putting on your glass bangles
Embellishing your shining forehead with a bindi
Applying make up for hours looking into the mirror
And I did not came to your mind!

Even while seeing a dove necking
Lighting an oil-lamp at a holy place
Shopping for a saree at a mall
Seeing the first rose on a hanging branch
Hearing sometime some soft music
Reading some book somewhere
Taking showers under rains on a cot on a cloudy day
Feeling embarrassed with your own youthful body sometime
Hugging your girl friend while laughing sometime
Having a walk while lost in your thoughts
Getting up some night and walking around
In silence while on a long walk
Messing around at your aunt’s place
Climbing a hill alone keeping composure
Seeing the setting moon in the waves
Putting some fragrance on your dress
Hearing the clamour of dry leaves in the fall
Reading lovers’ names on sad trees, engraved
Doing some chores at home sometime
Hiding under the scarf on your head when afflicted

And still I didn’t come to your mind!
Even while plucking a rose from a stem?
Even while seeing the doves necking
Even while sitting in a tree’s shade sometime
Is it true you never remembered me?
