Deadly blaze in Indonesian city

**At least 20 people have been killed after a fire broke out in a building in Medan, in the north of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, police said.**The fire broke out in an amusement centre in a commercial building in the city, Indonesia’s third largest.

Officials said that they had only just gained access to the smoke-filled rooms where victims were trapped and feared that the death toll may rise further.

The fire, which began in the early evening, burnt for at least an hour.

“The death toll may go up as there is still one room we cannot enter yet. The room is still full of smoke, and dark,” provincial police chief Badrodin Haiti told AFP news agency.

Officers said they had no idea what was behind the blaze.
