Removal of bar on third-time PM caused deadlock

ISLAMABAD: The Nawaz League’s insistence to include the removal of third-time premiership bar in the package for the restoration of the deposed judges was one of the major reasons of the deadlock between the PPP and the PML-N in London.
According to sources, everything was finalised between the PPP and PML-N during the deliberation on the mode of judges’ restoration. But, the sources on condition of anonymity said, the PML-N insisted that the lifting of bar on becoming prime minister for third time should also be included in the constitutional package for the restoration of the deposed judges, while the PPP was of the view that it did not have any link with the package for the judges’ restoration. “The difference on this issue created a deadlock“.
The sources said the PPP was of the view that this condition was put on the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and part of 270 AA, and it would be better to remove it later through a constitutional package that would also undo presidential powers to dissolve the Parliament while using Article 58-2 (b) of the Constitution.
The sources said all the major issue including fixing the tenure of the chief justice to five years was also settled. Both the parties also agreed on retaining of existing judges of the Supreme Court with the deposed judges to keep the strength of the apex court at 27.
The sources said Nawaz Sharif, in his press conference in Lahore, where he gave a deadline of May 12, said that in the largest interest of the country, the PML-N have to swallow the bitter pill.

So Nawaz quit the coalition govt, not because of the judges but because the PPP would not agree to his proposal to end the 3rd time bar on PM. Just shows all he cares about is power, not principles.
Similarly, I did say if he did have any principles he would have quit the Punjab govt as well, but that would mean foregoing his main political power base.
So judges are just a smokescreen, when he really wants hold onto Punjab and be PM again. At least his hypocrisy is being exposed.

Doesn't make sense. Zardari should have no problem with this clause. Even BB wanted this removed. At this time, PPP has the majority in the Parliament. If PML-N gets more seats in this or the next parliament and NS can't become PM, they can still have SS or some other proxy be the PM. Zardari gains nothing by insisting to keep the 3rd time PM limit.
I think the issue was deadlocked because Zardari's arms were twisted by Boucher in London, to make peace with Musharaf. Rumors are that NS was given a stern message in London by Boucher, and helped by the fact that Zardari doesn't trust Iftikhar Chaudhry, the whole thing was bound to create a rift. Rahman Malik was also involved in getting MQM roped in, when PML-N walks out. Writing was on the wall. They could have collapsed the whole thing in Dubai. Not sure why they dragged it a further 12 days.
Zardari is in a far more troubling spot right now. If NS can hold on to Punjab, then PPP will be in an even more trouble in its public image. Budget will be presented shortly, and it won't make anyone happy. PML-N has walked away from Finance Ministry, so the whole blame will now be placed on PPP. Lawyers will restart their movement and PML-N will join them (even being in government in Punjab). Things will just get rough for PPP, unless Zardari can find a quick way to dump/disassociate from Musharaf and put together another coalition, this time without involving PML (either of them).

It reminds me of the previous situation where PPP was heading the center and Nawaz Sharif was heading Punjab. I wonder if previous slogans of jaag punjab will come back?

When every discussion ends up in the same ditch because of the same reasons, there's some serious problem that's not very hard to identify.
Not many of us are juveniles here so let's all act more responsible like grown-ups, for own respective prestige if not for the forum or constructive debate.
