Ironic that we are invading Iraq because Saddam has disregarded U.N. resolutions to disarm....meanwhile many of the U.N. member countries feel we are ignoring the very U.N. that implemented the resolutions...
That said...hope the strike and awe is permanently on hold and they stick to bombing Saddam's houses and perhaps his palaces.
Pondering...The media has been making a big deal about there still being street lights in Bagdad.. and I think good that the Iraqi's still there have facilities..however think it's strange that they don't turn out the lights..like in WWII London Bombing blackouts...
But maybe it doesn't matter if the lights are blacked out or not in this day and age...or maybe it's better they see exactly what they are hitting.
Indpendent is reporting that "British" troops have taken the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr...
All out War has Begun... lets hope its over quickly with little casualties on either side....
Its not much of a war now... Its command and conquer...

Yeah, everyone is discussing politics, and not the military tactics employed in this war... Some reports suggest that the allied forces have taken over some oil shipping terminals, but they do not explain how they have done that, and what strategies they embodied. I guess the best strategy by the Iraqi forces would be concentrated on defending iraq.
i see some iraqi waving white flag and surrendering…![]()
Intelligence: Saddam in Attacked Compound
WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence believes Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was inside a compound bombarded by American forces and were examining a request for medical attention that could indicate injuries to senior Iraqi leaders, government officials said.
Just before the Op Iraqi Oil started, Saddam and Dubya met on IRC and had a lil chat with UN present:

What happened next is shown in this pic:

While we remember the grief and pain that the families of those 12 British and US troops must be going through right now, let us also weep for those who were never given the luxury of choice in deciding whether or not they wanted to be participants in this invasion:

Why did they stop the oil for food program?
Good question, Aishaa. In order to run the 'OFF' programme, there were government distribution ration centers set up all throughout Iraq for the past several years - in the words of UNSC reports headed by the UN Executive Director of the Iraq programme, Benon Sevan, it was a very efficient distribution programme. Thanks to the invasion, the distribution of these ration packets - which millions of civilians rely upon - has been severely compromised. Most (if not all) foreign UN staff have left the country. Annan ordered the temporary abandonment of the programme just hours before the invasion. The richer Iraqis have stored up about four weeks' worth of food supplies - the poorest among them don't have the luxury to do that; they don't have government rations either so i am not certain how they will survive in the following weeks unless the Red Cross or an equivalent org. is allowed to help with the millions of dollars in funding that is needed.
Hey?
Nadia?

It may not reflect "Americans", but it does reflect the government.

Why not? They elected this president and there is a very good chance they will do so again.

Remember, in politics, you don't tell to "all public" what your plans are? Also, when you get in the actual business (of being President) you are surrounded by a big bunch of "businessmen", and in this case the businesses are "OIL" and "ARMY". Oil companies wanted almost a freehand access to Iraqi oil, Army's budget has been on a decline since Clinton's era (as per my knowledge).... and after 911 and the 2 wars it is going back up again.
Bottomline is, people in general vote for the promises a candidate makes for "their" issues (gay/lesbian, abortion, Social Security etc.). But when he takes the office, he has to look at the "bigger" picture of the nation's "security and interests" and starts WARs.

My father’s brother is married to an American - probably the same type of skin colour that you have. She is a Christian. What type of “people” are Americans ? How can i possibly stereotype an entire collection of people - they are as diverse as anyone else. The difference is that i deliberately distinguish between the actions of your fellow people, and the actions of your government. i wish more Americans would extend the same maturity and seriousness towards the people of Iraq and not view “Iraq” as comprised of 24 million Saddam Husseins.
Well there’s only, allegedly 14 of him….look a likes that is.
Ave Am thingie, It’s very difficult to have a moral pro-war stance, even if it's against the regime.
Nadia, found any civilian casualties news links as yet? I know you would be eager to find them ;). Please report them here… Also if someone has any info on the war strategies by the US forces, please post links here… I read something about them using a plan by a former pentagon tactical expert, which was pretty interesting as so far his strategy remains flawless as the US forces are hardly getting any resistance.
nyah, sorry, Spock, i don't go out posting news links just because someone orders me to.
As for civilian casualties - try to look past the high tech weaponry presented as a video game on CNN, and perhaps we will all gain a more accurate picture of inevitable civilian casualties.
