If you have a normal birth, you'll have a lot more bleeding compared to a c-section. I put a whole package in my hospital bag, just to be on the safe side.
You know I was just thinking about this some time ago, its kind of a stupid question but in a normal birth I know bleeding is for 40 days...is it the same for a c-section?

For me the bleeding stopped almost by the tenth day after the C section. It was not a lot, maybe like the regular period flow. After that I had some discharge for a few more days (maybe a week)
I second what spiral said .... Regular pads wont hold a whole lot unless u wanna be changing every hour.... But all this depends on how much u bleed.... I needed and felt better wearing the granny panties like smiley said... And used the diapers they provided which u can easily get from the pharmacy if they dont.... Regular pads wouldnt have cut it for me...
The longer u can bleed in the 40 dsy margin after birth.... The better... According to e midwife at my delivery.... I forget why.
Post delivery... Its not just for ure sake but the baby's too... What u eat... If u are bfeeding... Nothing that gives gas...or 2 day old rice pasta etc...
Like smilestar said, make sure you buy the overnight pads....I bought the thin ones and they were useless. Oh and get some cream for your nipples, just in case.....I had trouble with getting peanut to latch properly and my poor nipples were so cracked....the cream was a life saver.

Normally in a c-section situation, there's typically a lighter flow compared to when you have a normal birth when the bleeding is heavier. The reason for this is, that during the c-section the doc will take out most of the blood/stuff (sorry, don't know the correct term for it). So you do bleed, but not as much. After a c-section, the flow will last anywhere between 30-40 days. And usually by the half way mark it's just light spotting anyways. Depends on the person. So yes, there's no getting away from it :p
i used disposable underwear these are especially made for use after birth...i thought they would be uncomfortable but i was pleasently surprised the disposable knickers were great, soft and very comfortable and i just threw them away after using one each day. This is one of the things on the top of my list and it saves ruining your underwear.

not really....it usually stops within 2 weeks. 40 days is just a limit for not praying in Islam.
My Sis in law said its a good idea to keep a bucket of luke warm water diluted with dettol in the bathroom..so everytime u use bathroom..clean urself with that water so you dont get infection coz of stitches and change ur pad everytime..
good luck

if you dont want to use chemicals (dettol) I put a few drops of Tea Tree Essential oil in the warm water, it helps against infections and heals too.

Yeah i don't think regular pads would've worked for me. My bleeding was pretty heavy. Also, in the U.S. hospital give you underwear that are made for afterbirth. They are mesh underwears that holds the pad good. Although I had my own granny underwears, I liked the hospital ones better.
in this link, there are 3 stages of bleeding described…1) heavy bleeding lasts 3 to 5 days. 2) thin bleeding lasts 10 days, 3) spotting/yellow discharge lasts for 3 weeks and may last for 6 weeks.
i had bleeding for almost 45 days that includes bleeding so much heavy for 15 days...then light bleeding then spotting
so its alll different .i know that i crossed 40 days and still was not ready for praying because of spotting so on day 50 i was able to pray.......:)
one thing which made me cry was latching the baby no doubt here in US they take good care of u n a lactation consultant comes every now n then but all the nurses n LC told me to put the babys mouth near the nipple n she ll latch ...well she did latch n had a powerful suck but only had my nipple in her mouth (TMI i know) n boy oh boy did it hurt toba tooba i literally had blisters n bleeding n was ready to quit bf ,it was so bad....then a nurse told me to apply lanolin n she said pinch ur areola and put it in babys mouth urself n it helped a lot so make sure u latch the baby properly otherwise its gonna hurt bad
i bled more than 40 days each time :( Check with doc but also keep taking vitamin supplements, I was told to continue my pre-natal for some time. It all depends. Make sure to buy some thick pads...like the ultra absorbent ones and buy more depending on your need. Drink lots of water and milk, like other mentioned eat healthy fiber rich foods, avoid spicy/gassy foods, avoid too much caffeine esp if you'll be breastfeeding. If you don't have anyone to make that 'panjiri' thing, do try to eat some mix of nuts like almonds, walnuts, etc......they are good for you. Definitely shower soon as you are able to, it will make you feel much better and cleaner. Good Luck!
