Daylight Saving

Many of you around the world have experienced when Countries move their clock forward by one hour in spring to get more daylight in the evening times, and move it back one hour in fall to readjust the time.

I fail to see the advantage of this exercise. Yes maybe 100 years ago when it started, there was an advantage, but now, its nothing but a nuisance. People who work on hourly wages lose one hour worth of pay, if they are working in graveyard shift during spring time. Plus its such a stress, especially on school going young kids to adjust their body clock when we lose one hour. Lots of people reach work late on Monday because they forgot to adjust their clocks.

anyone sees any special advantage in DST?

Re: Daylight Saving

Our state doesn't do it. :p

Re: Daylight Saving

DO you guys have advocates of DST in your State, UZ? DO you know that history of why Arizona does not have DST thingie?

Re: Daylight Saving

Only Navajo(tribe) in Arizona follows DST.

It observes the daylight saving schedule because of its large size – it spans across three states.

Most of Arizona Exempt from Daylight Saving Time

When does it start?

Re: Daylight Saving

Let me take help from uncle google.

Re: Daylight Saving

Re: Daylight Saving

It starts sometime in April, and finishes in Oct or Nov.

Re: Daylight Saving

That is exactly what I felt, even when I was in Michigan and now in Washington.

Re: Daylight Saving

First Sunday of Nov.

Daylight Saving Time 2012: Why and When Does It Begin?

Re: Daylight Saving

in last few years, they moved to Nov in USA. It used to be in Oct. In UK and many other countries, its still in Oct.

Re: Daylight Saving

Yes, I remembered it and started from 2006/2007.

Re: Daylight Saving

We have it. It's not a nuisance at all. You don't even realise something has changed. If we didn't move our clocks back an hour during fall, we'd be going to work in pitch black hours of the morning. This also poses a safety concern for kids. You don't "lose" an hour though.... if you were working 8 hours a day in Spring, you'd be working 8 hours a day in Fall too...

Re: Daylight Saving

I am asking for personal opinion whether you think the reasons are still valid or not.

Re: Daylight Saving

I guess you never worked on night shift at a gas station during the night when they move the clock forward. Your shift is 7 hours shift and you lose precious $7.50 that night :(

Re: Daylight Saving

Yeah I don't know how that works. I was referring to this bit - Plus its such a stress, especially on school going young kids to adjust their body clock when we lose one hour. - In my view, it's not disruptive at all, let alone stressful.

Re: Daylight Saving

Personally, I like the extra daylight in the summer, but it's not something I am vehemently for or against. I hate the disruption it causes so I don't think it's necessary.

Re: Daylight Saving

Ok, I meant my kids. They are such a lazy bum :D

exactly my point.
