Daycares

Dear guppy parents,
Please contribute your ideas about a good daycare. What key features a good day care must have to satisfy you as a parent. I guess the list would be different if your child is under the age of 1. and for ages 1-4 it would be different. Anyways…I have no idea how to trust some stranger for my child’s care but i know many of us have to do it. So please help me compile a list of do’s n dont’s.

gracias!

Re: Daycares

my criteria was

clean, safe, with trained certified staff, background checks on staff prior to hiring and later.

Re: Daycares

^ after all those criteria... once you have put your child in daycare, dont let the first day be a representation of future days to come.. it'll take your child almost 3-4 weeks to adjust to a daycare... and longer if they dont go more than 2 days a week..

having said that, u will get the vibe if its the right one or not.

Talk to the minders... and make sure ur comfortable with them

Re: Daycares

An approved child care - 'approved by the government', trained staff that i personally met. Also i made sure they took kids who were vaccinated, and they did. Some kids are not up to date with their vaccinations, so they are rejected. They have limits on places, so its not overcrowded, and you can tell how the kids are doing by looking at them.

Re: Daycares

We always sent our son to a gov. approved daycares. We wanted a homebased day care becayuse they have fewewr kids and pay uch better attaention indiviually.

We have two experinces, first my son went to a home based DC through a very very close family friend, and it was highly recommended. My son was miserable even after 3 weeks . She would take the kids out(she had 3 kids, including my son) out 1-2 times a week, so was more interested in kids playing on their own and sleeping quickly because she wanted to cook etc. We asked about her routine, asked all sort of question a parent may ask, plus reference checks but my son didn't settle there.

While he was going there I started looking for another one because I knew my son was not happy there, and found a regulated agency that offered home based day cares.
We went to see a woman that they told us was very good, initially she looked a bit dry kind of woman, but what we noticed wha that kids were very comfortable and happy around her, kids there went to her for every thing even for hugs. So we switched our son to her, and she turned out to be amazing, all the reference checks we did for her said she was amazing. She turned out to be a wonderful perosn, amazingly organized, clean, warm, the only thing she did while kids wee there was take care of them. She used to take them out atyleast once a day (unless weather was very very cold, I mean -10 and below) did activbities with them, and she would inform us about every single thing that needed our attention. We loved her, it is not easy to find someone this good to be honest, but there are ppl out there.
I would recommend, meet few ppl before settling for one, do refernce check. With due deligence you will find someone good. It is not easy, I was a nervous reck when I was trying to fond my son a good dat care, because it is not easy to trust a staranger when it comes to your kids.
Good luck.....

Re: Daycares

Thank you all for your valuable input. I guess the background checks are excellent and all but if this specific daycare is in pakistan, what to do then???
