Day care drama or actually sick?

Day care drama or sick?

My son started at a daycare two weeks ago and things have been crazy since he started. He used to stay with a nanny/desi aunty and had been going to her since he was 7 months old (now almost 3.) Aunty wasn’t teaching him much or training him so we decided to start him a local day care. First day he cried all day long, but the crying stopped as we moved towards that Friday. I have been packing food for him, but he isn’t eating much of it. He stopped eating breakfast as well, which I am fine with since he gets to school at 8:30 and they serve a snack at 9 and lunch at 11am. 2nd week of school started, he was completely fine Monday and Tuesday, no crying, ate more of his lunch. BUT the rest of the week didn’t eat or drink milk while at the day care.
Last Friday, I took him to the doctor and she suggested this is his way of showing that he is mad. Saturday, at home, he had full lunch and when I gave him milk, he threw up. He threw up 3 times on Saturday (twice by force, putting his finger in his mouth). He was acting fine, and I figured he ate too quickly. I didn’t give him any milk on Sunday, no throw ups on Sunday. We gave him a bottle at night time. Monday (yesterday,) he ate a little bit of the lunch at daycare, and had reg. dinner at home around 6:30pm. Around 9, his bedtime, I gave him some milk and he finished it quickly…and then he threw up (just the milk.) while he was asleep my husband gave him milk and he was fine.

Today in the AM, he finished his fresh orange juice and he forced himself to throw up again :{

Now I don’t know what to do. I am super worried. LO is a picky eater, but not eating even his favorite items at the daycare. He is popping fine. He has never before done the force throwing up before.

Do you guys think this is just day care adjustment thing, or something more serious? If this continues, I will take him to the doctor again in few days.

Any similar experiences or advice?

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

He will take his time to accept the daycare. Refusing food is very classic. My son did that, I have seen other children do it as well. My son at some point tried to vomit by force and we had to be very firm with him on that. He did stop. Just keep giving him his favorite food for lunch, one day he will start eating.

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

Thanks lusi, i have told him, very firmly that, but hubby doesn’t really know how to stop him. I will have to make sure to stop him and tell him thats not acceptable!

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

We would physically remove his hand from mouth with a very firm no. We’d even give him that angry look for a good minute.

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

thanks lusi, but he threw up again this morning… without any food. Hubby said it was a more like a spit up. But we are taking him to the doc. tomorrow to see if he has a viral infection or something.

I do stop him, but the thing is he is scared of me and doesn’t do it front of me. But with my husband…he knowns he can get away with everything. I will have to teach my husband how to stop him :frowning:

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

So took him to the doctor today and looks like he has Gastroenteritis
:frowning:
no milk or protein for two days :frowning:

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

Poor thing…I hope he doesn’t have dairy allergy.

Re: Day care drama or actually sick?

^ well I have milk allergies and he hasn’t shown any yet, fingers crossed. My allergies got much worse after having him.
