Dawood aide, ‘93 Mumbai blasts accused Karimullah arrested
Mumbai, Aug 21: Dreaded underworld criminal and a ’93 Mumbai blasts accused Karimullah Khan has been arrested from Nalasopara area of Mumbai two days ago by the Crime Branch. He is alleged to be a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim and carried a crucial role in planning and executing the blasts that killed more than 200.
Karimullah was arrested by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police two days ago, the Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police Rakesh Maria told Zee News. He carries a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, announced by the CBI. The Dawood aide played a crucial role in the blast and is accused of hatching conspiracy to create terror. He not only arranged the explosives, but also those who planted them.
Karimullah was sent to Kathmandu by Dawood for taking care of operations in that country- before moving to India through Uttar Pradesh border. He was reportedly living in Nalasopara for two years, after intelligence detected his presence in the neighbouring country.
The police got a tip-off around five days before about his presence in the Thane area. He was caught two days back and confessed to being involved in Mumbai blasts.
He is a multi-lingual. This helped him evade arrest till now. He is also accused of sending youngsters across the border for training in arms and explosives. He was involved in transporting smuggled material from the ports where it first landed, to their eventual destination.
Karimullah fled India way back in June-July of 1993 on his original passport. He was also arrested in 1986 in a case but was bailed out. That case also will be taken up against him.
A Red Corner Notice of Interpol was issued against him since 1995. Karimullah, as per intelligence, was putting up at Dawood’s Karachi house since 2006. He was probably responsible for transporting explosives, including RDX, for D-Company.
**He has admitted that Dawood, Anees Ibrahim and Chota Shakeel are all based in Pakistan. He is also the right-hand man of Ejaz Pathan
