dawat menu help

alright i need all the help i can get.. iam doing a dawat for my in laws some time next week its going to be 12 adults and 10 kids.
my only concern is iam a great cook when it comes to cooking for 2-5 people anything more in quantity and i mess up :bummer:

anywho i need help with my menu i need some yummy but easy dishes i always have the same menu when they come over..
iam actaully considering kofta biryani and aloo gosht not sure about any thing else since they are into desi foods not so much into the western type.. any tips, suggestions for kids as the biryani maybe too spicy.

:konfused:

thank you for your help fellow gupshupers :@:

Re: dawat menu help

kofta biryani and aaloo gosht sounds so yum. You can add chicken karahi (or chicken achar or Dum pukht chicken, actually any chicken dish with some masala) to it. Fish n chips or some kind of noodles for kids. Salad, Chutney, Raita, Drinks, Nans and any dessert that you can make easily. Done :)

Re: dawat menu help

Add an achar chicken I would day, maybe some grilled masala fish both very easy!

Re: dawat menu help

at their last dawat i made chicken karahi and messed up reaallyy badly :bummer: thanx for the idea’s i think i’ll try chicken curry again :konfused:

i LOVE chicken achar :hayaa: my husband doesn’t like it so doesn’t let me make it for him :naak:

Re: dawat menu help

DO you use shaan masala or your own masala.

I can give you a recipe for very very easy chicken karahi.

Qeema is also tasty!

Re: dawat menu help

i use them both add my namak, mirch and haldi and a bit of shan masala for flavor.. sure i love trying new recipes :D

Re: dawat menu help

Have a rice dish: Biryani or pulao

A dry meat dish: such as kababs

A salan/meat dish: such as chicken karahi

A veggie dish: such as chanay or palak

And then have roti available for those who prefer it.......and your salad and chutneys vaghaira and you're good to go.

Not a fan of aaloo gosht...and my mom has made it today. But if your family enjoys it....then use it as your salan/meat dish. ****But if you're koftay are going to be made of red meat....and aloo gosht is red meat........then maybe make one those dishes a chicken one?

Re: dawat menu help

RVs menu is well balanced, and what I would have suggested.

If however you want to do Kofte biryani and aloo gosht you can always do a grilled/tandoori chicken as your dry dish. Keep it mild and serve it with chips for thie kids.

Re: dawat menu help

shami kabab/seekh kabab/fried chops
yakhni palao... fish or chicken biryani...choose one.
palak gosht/aaloo gosht/kofta curry/salan/piyaz gosht /qeema piyaz/matar qeema/gobhi qeema
fruit trifle/ice cream/fruit custard

Re: dawat menu help

Jhanji , I am no good too , when it comes to cooking in larger amounts ... so this is what I do , I make many dishes in smaller quantities ... thats why I always keep one rice dish and about 3 salan choices !

And almost two types of starters ...

normally with this technique I manage to stay out of trouble with cooking in larger amounts ...
you may try this trick , if it suits you

Re: dawat menu help

you can make :

  • chicken handi / chicken karhai

  • shami kebabs / mutton chops / fried drum sticks

  • raita

  • biryani or vegetable fried rice with chicken machrurian

  • naan / rooti

  • russian salad

  • ice cream for dessert

Re: dawat menu help

oh you all are great.. some awesome advice and menu ideas :hugz:

i cant void aloo gosht.. a dawat is not dawat in our house with out gosht.. i think i like the kabab idea along with chicken karahi.

thank you.. the dawat is on the 18th so still have time to figure things out. :chilly:

Re: dawat menu help

Janjhariya, you have plenty of time to plan.

What cb said works for me too, i always try to make 2/3 different salan’s and 1 rice dish

also check out my PM that should help

with a couple of starters and two desserts

Re: dawat menu help

ok 5more days to finalize menu and so far i think i have decided on

kofta biryani
chinese noodles for kids
aloo gosht
seekh kebab
and channa salan

should i still add in the chicken roast? or chicken karahi?

for meetha i think its going to be simple kheer..

would you enjoy this menu at a dawat? :konfused:
