You guys are right about desis competing for these things.
But as far as arranging a dawat/feast is concerned, I've seen this kinda competition among other nations too. I've seen amercians competing for the bestest Thanksgiving, wedding, chirstmas or any other kinda dinner. One has to arrange a better thanksgiving dinner than her sister-in-law or friend.
Or a couple decides not to use some specific music at their weddinjg because someone else has already used it etc. etc.
