David Blaine

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51113-2003Oct19.html

"Thousands of Londoners gathered Sunday night to cheer and jeer a very hungry and haggard American as he descended from a plastic cage where he spent 44 days and nights without food. "

“It’s been one of the most important experiences of my life. I’ve learned more in that little box than I have in years.”

“Thus ended one of the most bizarre displays in this city in recent years, one that brought out a certain streak of sadism and hostility in the usually unflappable British. Onlookers pelted Blaine’s cage with golf balls, paint bombs, eggs, bananas and French fries, and some shined laser pens in his eyes late at night. They mooned him and shouted “wanker!” and other quaint terms of endearment. Someone organized a barbecue directly below his cage to make him salivate. And one man climbed a tower at 3 a.m. and ripped off the plastic water container supplying Blaine’s water and hurled it to the ground below. He was convicted of criminal damage and fined some $1,600.”

**“Mr. Blaine seems inordinately pleased with himself and lacks a sense of the ridiculous – both recognizably American traits which we Brits rather despise.” **

I find it funny how the Brits reacted on the whole Blaine circus

Couldn’t have said it better :k:

If he really wanted to sit in a glass cage for 44 days he should have done it somewhere in the arctic and without publicity. We could have read about the on day 15 when his arms and legs fell off from frost-bite. Now that would have made for a decent story.

His works should be held up as a wonder of human achievement. In that it’s a wonder how a human can set out to achieve so little and in doing so achieve even less.

What magic, what mystery, what a pratt.

I guess even he realized how ridiculous all this was.. perhaps that's why he chose to do it away from the USA.. what better place for a boring 'trick' then London .

It’s no fun with just one American doing it, now if 300 million put themselves into glass boxes with no food and no water for a couple of months I dare say I’d flick the channel over and watch for a bit. :flower1:

Didn't see the grand exit on t.v but from what I've read in the papers he came out of the box, cried and went to hospital. What happened to the spectacular ending?

Feel sorry for the ambulance men though. He must've absolutely stunk.

I don’t think they allow immigrants ( ) to drive ambulances Madhanee and BBCD’s don’t have the BO problem :snooty:

Don’t feel sorry Shahreen; in all likelihood the Ambulance driver was a Paki. He is used to smell.

So you've been in his ambulance then?

Madhanee's taking all this rather personally isn't he?...Blaine an errant grandson of yours old man?...Follows the family tradition of displaying bad hygiene in public. You can take the man out of the excrement stinking glass box but you can’t get rid of that lohori smell huh?

For our next American guest sitting in his own excrement can we have junior pleej, nothing’s changed in London I love it we still string up village idiots and put them on display, don’t stray too close to the South Bank on your next visit here old man unless you’ve got a 44 day visa.

david blaine is a gr8 guy, i admire him and his internal strength. i believe in his magic which is real and not FAKE. i mean the man can levitate, he can stand in a block of ice for 60+ hours, he can break a glass full of water with his concentration etc, he is simply magical and all the hype about him dying after 3 weeks in the perspex box ( according to doctors) were again proven to be all in vain as david showed how strong he is mentally and physically to withhold any test of endurance.

david blaine rocks :dhimpak:

If he can levitate it's a shame he didn't levitate himself to a hospital instead of clogging up London's busy roads with ambulances and used diapers.

Thap, it gets worse. Bush is coming to town.........19th, 20th and 21st November. Deep joy.

I have to agree some Paki’s really do stink of sh!t. Here mads :flower1:

Mads,

We're a nation of dog lovers, Blaine and Americans in general play on our foible.

I'm just surprised that an american lasted for so long without eating
