Good sharing , good ideas. :k:

Re: Dates for iftar.

In the UK if you live near a Pakistani or Arab speciality food store there have lots of yummy dates, which taster nicer and have more in a packet than the ones in the supermarkets. It's usually the shops that also sell halal meat. I have to be careful with the supermarket ones that they're not being imported from Israel as I don't want to support their economy.

Re: Dates for iftar.

Medjool dates are the best. Ramdan or no Ramdan, we buy a box every month. 1 date after dinner each night is icing on the cake.

Re: Dates for iftar.

love medjool dates. Not so expensive. Bought a big daba for $20 from the desi market.

Re: Dates for iftar.

How many pounds in the dabba ?
Here the dabba is for 54 dollars. which has 10 pounds of dates. Per pound they charge $5.99.

Re: Dates for iftar.

4 pound dabba - so the price is about the same per pound. But I rather shell out $20 bucks than $54. The Medjool dates are huge and delicious and they are product of Sunny California.

I don't know if we could get through 10 pound dabba of dates between 2 people in the house.

Re: Dates for iftar.

Hey, I got mine from TESCO's and they had a lovely variety of dates. I got the SAFAWI dates and they are so tasty. I have tried the Khudary ones and they too are lovely especially the almond ones!

Re: Dates for iftar.

After reading this thread, I went on the hunt for Mejdool dates! I found them at Costco, but when I got home I realized they were produced in Israel. I will be returning them because I don't feel comfortable purchasing Israeli products.

Butttt.... my hubby found Mejdool dates at another store, produced in USA. And they are a lot fresher than the Israeli ones! same price..
