Job Description:
Interact with the ISNA staff (users), developers, and the MIS department to promote information sharing, coordinate enterprise information architecture, develop physical data models, assist in the coordination of development methodologies and tools, and provide data management operations to ensure the security, quality, performance, and accessibility of ISNA’s informational resources.
Goals and Objectives:
Maximize the value, quality, and usability of information through the standardization of database configuration, accessibility procedures, and maintenance.
Promote data consistency and standardization.
Minimize duplication in collecting, processing, storing, and distributing data.
Improve the quality, accuracy, and integrity of data.
Improve data management and access through the use of existing and new methods, tools, and technologies.
Responsibilities:
Install, upgrade, and configure the MS SQL server and required applications and tools.
Evaluate the database server hardware/OS configuration and coordinate system administration for optimal configuration recommendations.
Identify and resolve key problems with database structures, including:
Create and modify physical storage structures (i.e. table spaces, tables, indices, partitions, clusters, temporary storage structures, clusters, and data files.)
Size physical storage structures to minimize database fragmentation and chaining.
Distribute and balance I/O.
Plan for future storage capacity requirements for the server and database.
Monitor and optimize the performance of database applications and the database as a unit.
Monitor the availability and reliability of database-related procedures, processes, and services.
Manage users, privileges, roles, and quotas to control and monitor user access to the database.
Maintain a backup and recovery strategy for database information and restore the database as required.
Maintain archived data for point-in-time restorations.
Install, upgrade, configure, and tune network access to the database (i.e. SQL*Net, Oracle Names, ODBC, etc.)
Ensure compliance with MS SQL server and application tool licensing.
Develop and implement the policies, technical procedures, and standards for preserving the integrity and security of data.
Assist other departments with applying standards and resolving integration issues.
Assist project teams in designing the database storage structures and program units as to the effect on:
The performance of the database as a unit.
The performance of the server executing the RDBMS.
The performance of the database during data operations and transactions.
The efficiency of backup and recovery procedures for the database.
Assist developers in identifying and purging obsolete database structures, accounts, etc.
Provide technical support and guidance, as required.
Provide education and training to database users and developers.
Develop DBA support utilities, scripts, and tools.
Job Requirements:

In addition to a Bachelors Degree, you are required to have a minimum of 1-2 years experience in managing databases using MS SQL or Oracle and you must be an expert with writing queries and understanding data, with solid experience in Visual Basic and Dot Net framework including data migration and large OLTP as well as successful implementation of data replication in high transaction environments. This position requires excellent communication, mentoring and troubleshooting skills. Plusses would be: Previous SQL DBA in a non-profit organization, MCDBA certification or any other certifications
