The short film fad very well might catch up in Bollywood after these ‘Das Kahanyan’ directed by 6 directors. The directors, actors, writers and producers were some of Bollywood’s strongest, and the *overall *result was quite alright at best, nothing exceptional, perhaps just a gush of fresh air to add to it made it quite appealing. What I’m afraid of is, what if? What if every other Tom, Dick, Harry of a Bollywood director starts filming this genre? Viewers will be tricked into a lot of mountains that are infact mole hills. Viewers better not be tricked by smart editing in the trailers when it comes to other similar ventures that might follow up soon.
As for ‘Das Kahaniyan’ I must say it was a good almost 2 hours. Interesting. But not great. Enjoyable, but no reverence. Not a must watch, but definitely recommended watch.
I liked the one called “Pooranmasi” starring Amrita Singh and Parmeet Sethi and directed by Meghna Gulzar. This one *was *Brilliant and a must watch. The story, esp the cinematography, even the song, the acting, the screenplay, the lighting; Brilliant!
Second I liked “Rice Plate” with Naseerudin Shah and Shabana Azmi. Brilliant acting. Good lesson. Directed by Rohit Roy.
One major put off. Out of 10 stories by 6 directors, 7 stories had sex as one of the main elements and revolved around sensuality. I feel there are other subjects too which can be explored in short films. That’ll be more substantial perhaps. Why just romance, sensuality and sexuality?

Great review Haris. I completely agree with the above. My favorites also were Rice Plate, and Pooranmasi. Shabana Aazmi, Nassurdin Shah, and Amrita Singh were awesome.
just watched it on second day of eid.....overall it was ok not something super duper.....but AMRITA SINGH story was superb (they shud have made the whole story on dat subject...the story was heart touching n can make u cry) and the other 2 stories i liked were dia mirza one and mandira bedi (first one)...rest were rubbish
It wasn't enjoyable at all... especially the first 6. I liked the one with shabana azmi/nasrudin shah and the one after that one... I guess it was story 7 and 8. Rest was all crap.
I still prefer our good ol' 60-90 min movies...
I loved this movie. There was maybe about 2 stories which were bad but the res were amazing.
I loved Puranmaashi, and Zahir was my favorite with Manoj Bajpai and Dia Mirza. The climax hits u like a ton of bricks. The Neha Dhupia and Mahesh one is really well done as well!
