Anyone know what could cause this? A relative of mine has it. It’s a large patch of noticeably darker skin on the lower back. The doctor said it’s nothing, but I’m wondering if we need a second opinion.
Could it be that he/she uses hot water bottles frequently..?

Sahar02, I guess that that person has it from childhood? (how old is that person btw?)
My first guess is that it’s a Mongolian spot. A totally benign mark. See Mongolian spot - Wikipedia
Re: Darkened skin in the lower back
In her 50s, Nes. It's not a spot but a large patch of skin.
Re: Darkened skin in the lower back
oh okee, then it might be a verruca sebhorrhoica Seborrheic keratosis - Wikipedia
these are also benign.
Can you post an image of the lesion? (from google perhaps?)
Re: Darkened skin in the lower back
I'll see if I can find one. It just looks like darkened skin in the whole lower back area that's thicker and slightly bumpy in appearance -- almost like it's just dirty. But she's been scrubbing away it with no luck.

A dry skin patch perhaps?
Re: Darkened skin in the lower back
my daughter has that... (mangolian spot).. however hers is sorta blueish and the doctors say it goes away with time. Im wondering how long it takes though.. hmm
