So I’ve tried to research this topic but I find a lot of people mistakenly call this area the “skin around the cuticle” which people interpret differently. The area I’m talking about is the dark proximal nail fold as shown in the diagram below:
I’ve noticed this area on my fingers starting to get darker after I started university. The fingers on the right hand are a bit darker than the ones on the left (btw i’m right-handed). Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do to get it back to the colour it was? I have a few ideas in mind such as rubbing a lemon slice or maybe applying ubtan but I would like to know if anyone has had any successful attempts to get their colour back to normal?
interesting question......I've seen this happen to some folks and now I'm trying to remember if this was the case with me.......I know that my brother has this problem and it really makes his hands look rough.
do you manicure your hands? do you push your cuticles back and trim them?
I think that if I allowed my cuticles to grow out for a long time then this area would darken naturally......but I'm guessing.
i've only gotten a manicure once in my life and that was after the darkening appeared. apart from that one time, i've never trimmed my cuticles or pushed them back. i'm not really sure if cuticles would be the root cause because i never did anything to them while my skin was normal.
im starting to think it may be due to dryness?
the darkness is not really visible from a distance so i want to start doing something about it now before it darkens further. this week i've started putting coconut oil on the areas just to help with the dryness. if anyone knows home remedies for dark spots please do share!
