Dark patches on skin

I’ve been noticing this issue with my skin lately–a lot of dark patches on my mouth/chin area. It’s to the point that if I don’t have a lot of makeup on, I look like a kid who got into the chocolate stash :nahi::naraz:

Not much has changed in the last few months–diet, medication, are all the same. The only new thing I did since last month was the oil cleansing method, but I had excellent results when I did it the first time around, I’m doing it correctly, using the right oils… so I cdan’t think of that as being the culprit. I got a sample of lip exfoliator a few weeks ago and use that about once a week or every other week.. nto often or regular at all.

I have generally sensitive skin…Any advice? I’ve generally not had serious issues with my skin the last few years, so I’m pretty stressed and worried about this.

Re: Dark patches on skin

Do you put on sun screen? Could be hormonal too? Apply moisturizer under your foundation/bb cream ALWAYS

Get regular facials at a good spa (don't use anything herbal these desi salons advertise)

Do honey masks in your down time....Organic un-pasterized honey (not the bear kind) 1 teaspoon, apply it all over the face and leave it for up to an hour but at least 30 mins, wash it off with lukewarm water

And for the love of God this is for ALL desi women reading this ....DO NOT BLEACH your face, you can't get lighter skin but only patchy spots on that perfectly coloured skin tone you are meant to have....

If you are still worried, go see a dermatologist

Re: Dark patches on skin

IPL facial will get rid of the dark patches and so will a professional strength peel. I shouldn't be advising people to go to Groupon and buy a laser/peel package but that's what I did and I am happy with the results. Right thing to say would be to see your dermatologist. If you do decide to get a peel done, don't do it yourself and if you are impatient like me, DON'T DO IT AT ALL! There is some down time in both treatments.

Keep using Retin-A .05%. It really does help with dark spots and acne. It peels away dead skin gradually. Bonanza.com sells it for cheap but you can easily get an Rx for it too.

Re: Dark patches on skin

  • sometimes this can happen if your aesthetician changes the wax she is using.....it happened to me on the inside of my arm once where the skin is very delicate.
went away in a couple of weeks

  • hormonal fluctuation/imbalance can cause discolouration of the skin on the face (like in pregnancy)

definitely check with a dermatologist before doing anything harsh.

Re: Dark patches on skin

I decided to get a full face wax after maybe 2 years, I got little pimples but those were expected and treated. Otherwise I normally get threading in that area.

I guess ill ask my Dr for a referral, I’m not keen on doing any at home treatments aside from simple facewash or oil. :bummer:

Re: Dark patches on skin

one year I was late booking with my aesthetician around Eid and ended up going to a different salon as a last resort because she was not available.
I ended up with patches of dark skin all over both arms.....looked disgusting since I was to wear a sari and the blouse had short sleeves......

what a nightmare that was.

when I went back to them on the third day they were so horrible and suggested that I had an allergic reaction that they were not responsible for when it wasn't a rash but simple darkened areas....but that's a whole other story.

Re: Dark patches on skin

Its' not the OCM that's causing the dark patches. Do you wear sunscreen daily? I may be asking for a lot here but would you mind posting a pic of the dark patches? Just crop out and post only the mouth/chin area?

Re: Dark patches on skin

Im 99.9999% sure it wouldn't, but that's hte only new thing I've done, so thought I'd mention it. I'll try to put up pix over the weekend.

And I don't wear sunscreen--I'll get moisturizer that has SPF in it, but beyond that I don't really know much about it. :(

Re: Dark patches on skin

Look forward to seeing the pic.

Umm…yea you need to get a good physical sunscreen and wear it daily! That’s the best anti-aging thing you can do (other than staying out of the sun but that doesn’t work 100% of the time). I use Juice Beauty everyday and I LOVE it b/c it’s tinted and has 20% zinc which is really good sun protection. I would strongly encourage you to look into this.
