What do you do about it?
I started scrubbing with lemon, salt and olive oil but that only seems to effect the knees. What to do about the elbows and knuckles :hinna:?
Re: Dark knees, elbows and knuckles
Hmm…keep exfoliating and maybe use a cream that contains a bleaching agent such as hydroquinone or kojic acid etc. You can find them in stores at a lower concentration. You’ll have to see a derm for stronger stuff. Either way it’ll make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so make sure to wear sunblock.
You could try making a solution of lemon juice, glycerin, and rosewater. And then just leave it on overnight. It’ll take time, but I’ve heard that it helps.
Re: Dark knees, elbows and knuckles
I’ve dark marks on my knees and elbows due to sliding and falling while playing Netball ages ago
. I’ve been successful in getting then cleaned up using ’ Obagi ’ cream. The only thing is that if u quit after the marks lighten then they do come back, but Obagi is the best cream that work for me. Most of the desi ladies I know swear by it.
Re: Dark knees, elbows and knuckles
^Used obagi several years ago when I had a bout of really evil acne. It didn’t suit me.
Hella expensive too.
Re: Dark knees, elbows and knuckles
I believe that obagi has a bunch of creams for different conditions since it is a skincare line. For dark spots I use #3](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=3) . RV, you are right that it is expensive but it does go a long way though.
Re: Dark knees, elbows and knuckles
Hello LP,
- Exfoliate with coconut oil and sugar scrub.
- Mix baking soda with milk and apply paste. Wait till dry. Wash off.
- Moisturise with a cream of your choice.
You will begin to see a difference in a couple of weeks.
Re: Dark knees, elbows and knuckles
Exfoliating removes the dead layer of skin on top. After exfoliation, the fresh new layer of skin is exposed. In order for the new skin not to damage you must protect it from sun and dry conditions, or even too moist conditions. The dark skin is the skin cells reacting to sun after exposure. My skin produces more melatonin and I get dark even after a few minutes of sun exposure.
I recommend exfoliating at night and moisturizing with a product that will seep into the epidermis. You may even wear moisturizing gloves or cotton socks on your hands through the night to help seal in moisture. In the day, wear sunscreen 15 min before sun exposure and reapply often.
As for elbows, over exfoliation may leave this area too raw. Find a method of exfoliation that is gentle yet effective. The key to after exfoliating is a good moisturizer, look for all natural/organic ingredients. Simple, organic coconut oil applied after a shower can do the trick. You will see improvement in just a couple of weeks.
All the best.
