Dargah/Mazar culture

Sufi saints were humble, polite and love spreading by nature… They gained love, respect and higher status in the hearts of people of other religions specially Sikhism and Hinduism… Graves of those saints turned into Dargah(Mazar or shrine)…

Many practices are part of Dargah culture…

  • flower sheet…
  • qawwali…
  • matha teekna…

What else beside mentioned practices have you seen or listen?

Re: Dargah/Mazar culture

  1. lighting mud lamp (diya) / agar-batti

  2. taking water from mazar as tabarruk ( My dadi used to bring water from a mazar and made all family Members drink that for barkat purposes). She also used to bring oil from diya on mazar for same barkat purpose. My dada (who followed deo-bandi maslak) never objected to this practice, but he didn't use these water and oil.

  3. Matha tekna is not as common as touching the chadar on mazar with respect and then touching same hands with ones face and hearts.

will add more when I remember
