Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

The killing of pashtun policemen in Lahore was a dangerous precedent and thats ringing alarm bells in the community and could have dangerous repercussions.

Pakhtuns in another fight for survival - thenews.com.pk

**PESHAWAR: The recent incidents of Pakhtun killings in Lahore and Quetta after their bloodshed in Karachi have added to the concern of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the safety of the community across the country.

The return of corpses of near and dear ones from all directions have strengthened the perception among the Pakhtuns that they are the softest target both for the state and non-state actors. Be it the tribal belt, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh or Balochistan, they are targetted by terrorists — “both in jeans and turbans,” — as some Awami National Party (ANP) leaders remarked.

For the last four decades, Pakhtuns on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border have been bearing the brunt of the ramifications of the “great game” being played on their soil. Afghanistan is still manned and governed with the support of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and people in Afghanistan have strong resentment against their presence.

People on this side of the border are also unhappy over the foreign occupation of Afghanistan. **The Taliban, al-Qaeda and their likes have continued destroying the social fabric of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), converting the landscape into insecure, militarised and intolerant society. There is grim sense of insecurity both in terms of employment, freedom of expression, dialogue and discussion, not only in Fata but also in rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Suicide attacks, IEDs, target killings of tribal elders, political leadership, blast in mosques, shrines, and of course the drone attacks have enormously bled Pakhtuns. In 2009, Pakhtuns witnessed a similar plight in Swat when this once peaceful place was turned into a living hell virtually ruled by people with extremist mindset. To get rid of these forces, the Pakistan Army had to intervene with political backing and it witnessed a huge human tragedy of mass migration of nearly three million people in a short period of time.

**The target killing of Pakhtuns in Karachi is nothing new and scores of bodies of Pakhtuns have been sent to villages and cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for burial.

The ruthless killing of under-training wardens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa prisons in Lahore has, indeed, deepened the sense of insecurity among Pakhtuns. It has raised serious questions over the responsibility of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab governments for providing fail-safe security to the slain cops.

Balochistan, which had remained a Pakhtun-friendly province with huge Pakhtun presence, is no more a secure place for Pakhtuns. The kidnapping of coalminers and their subsequent murder followed by a bomb attack on ANP’s public gathering in Kuchlak near Quetta signifies a paradigm shift in Balochistan insurgency.**

Has this been decided by those who pull the strings in Balochistan to start an ethnic strife in the province? If so, Pakhtuns are up to another fight for their survival. It is a fight against their will and imposed upon them by those who matter.

Attacks on Pakhtuns across the country raise two main questions: Is it the leadership that has failed to protect the Pakhtuns or is it the policy of the State that has resulted in collective insecurity of Pakhtuns?

It is evident that poverty and insecurity is the driving force for Pakhtun diaspora but in all its dimensions this paints a very grim picture of Pakhtuns’ plight.

What is the way forward or how can Pakhtuns get out of this quagmire appear to be a million dollar question. The Pakhtun leadership, unfortunately, is divided on the solution. Even the minimum agenda has not been agreed so far despite many jirgas in Kabul and Peshawar.

The Taliban are freedom fighters or terrorists, ISAF should leave forthwith or stay till calm prevails, Taliban interpretation of Shariah is the expression of true Islamic teaching or not are questions needing answers. What is the cost of peace for Pakhtuns and what are the basic requirements that must be met before peace prevails in this beautiful part of world is something the leadership should sit and decide.

Re: Pakhtuns in another fight for survival

WTH

a terrorist attack targeted to security agencies, why bringing in the ethnicity in it??? or somebody wants to tell me that these terrorists only kill Pakhtoons and are friendly towards others??? grow up and smell the coffee, they want to you divide and from the tone of the article posted above, it seems they tactics have worked???

Re: Pakhtuns in another fight for survival

This is a dangerous tactic, and I believe this has been implemented after the failure in igniting the Shia Sunni sectarian conflict. I have seen some serious Pashtuns talking about these things.

Re: Pakhtuns in another fight for survival

Smells Like a "RAW" deal to me!

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Sadly true. Pashtuns and all other ethnicities have been betrayed by Pakistan. There are many Pashtun argumements that have been put forward over the last 10 years.

Many Pashtun nationalists would say that Osama would be found in a non-Pashtun area and he was indeed found in Abbottabad.

Many Pashtuns argue that FATA is being used to destabilise Afghanistan and militants are supported by elements in the ISI and Army. The whole world is echoing this and many of the locals, the only people who dont seem to agree with this are based in Punjab. Sindhis and Baloch also agree. The Pashtun Nationalist movement has argued this since day one and sadly they will be proved right.

Pashtun lives are being wasted deliberately through fanning the flames of militancy. The whole Swat debacle could have been avoided and ended swiftly yet the then government allowed it to fester.

Pashtun areas are made to look completely lawless and unsafe resulting in a big drop in tourists and trade with other regions.

Pashtuns are painted as right wing militant savages yet large numbers want to be neutral in the war on terror.

Bombings in Lahore, Islamabad get a different type of coverage in the media than those that take part in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pashtuns have no friends in the region - they have been betrayed by their governments in Pakistan and Afghanistan, international community wants to enforce their will onto it.

For the last 30 years the military establishment has allowed the social and economic fabric of Pashtun society to be destroyed and they are forced to move to other areas.

If you want a more accurate view of whats going on in the region and what may be likely to happen follow Pashtun nationalists.

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

unfortunetly, in this so called war on terror, more like war of terror, Pashtuns are the most affected community by all this. Whatever has happenend over the years has affected them the most.

I would really like to believe that its not some ethnic issue ... but given the state our country is in, anything is possible!

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Of course it is an ethnic issue when large members of the community are affected at home ie KP, FATA and away ie Karachi.

So many terrorists have been arrested from Punjab and Sindh, some say more than in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The decisions are more so made in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and the reality is that they have delberately created havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but the havoc is going to hit the fan. I think it will get much worse. The area has been treated as a colonial entity, no thoughts given to the locals. The locals have been invaded by their own army countless times.

Many Pashtun nationalists argue there are military operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA yet none in Punjab where in some areas there are many militants.

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Lolz.....now the indian hindus think they can ignite the pushtuns against Pakistan ? you guys have to really grow up.

The real people who have been denied their rights are the naxalities, the maoists, the shudars, the dalits and the kashmiris by the hindu brahmin new dehli. All indicators point that India will soon disintegrate into a dozen small states. There are at least 16 separatists movements running in India. Pakistan should reciprocate India's role in Pakistan and should provide active support and guidance to these movements. I guess we will think about it once we are over this shaitani govt. just wait our hindu friends, we are coming for you soon.

Re: Pakhtuns in another fight for survival

Yeah please also add Nam and NoKo to the list to make it more realistic.

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Just 16  . I thought that the latest estimate was about 16^16, ie, 256 separatist movements :bummer:

.. And then there will be :jhanda:on Red Fort. Three cheers for Jhandoo Hamid Sahib :nuch:

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Well honey, muslims ruled you for a thousand years despite being ten times less than you, and inshAllah we will do it again.

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

The words were “…at least 16…”.

And you made them bold but changed those yourself. Just sayin!

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Let a leader of the class of Hazrat Aurangzeb [RA] emerge in your country.
Let him purify your own country of all the murtads, mushriks and kuffars.
Let all Pakistanis find their true *Dīn *and follow the sunnah of the Prophet.
Than surely you will rule Hindoostan.
For verily, it is not proper to begin Gazwa-e-Hind with impious heart. ;)

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

Indeed what you are saying is true. However, I am all for reciprocating India's involvement in Pakistan. Pakistan should also support separatists movements in India like India is doing in Pakistan. It is my considerate analysis that no matter what Pakistan does, indian hindus will NEVER rid themselves of their hatred against islam and pakistan and will NEVER stop back stabbing. So I argue that Pakistan should cut to the chase and start reciprocating.

Re: Dangerous bid to inflame ethnic tensions

You do realize they were most likely killed because of their uniforms right? Its highly doubtful it was due to their ethnicity.

The author is causing fear and panic with no proof. Nothing more. He is the worst of the lot out there.
