Danes face growing Muslim storm

Re: Danes face growing Muslim storm

See buddy, Govts do act sometime based on popular positioning. Though mostly they try to keep themselves away from religion in governance. That's my understanding......
I am sure if I go in research, I will find enough Jesus Cartoons in European media, that is neither protested so violently as well no Govt comes and issues a apology for it.....
If these violent protests force Danish Govt to issue an apology at last, the harm to Islam will be more than taking it peacefully. Since this creates a view of Islam being Rigid...

Re: Danes face growing Muslim storm

^ the same governments have laws prohbiting press and media from doing the same to jews and anything anti-semitic....

u cant allow them to have double standards and let it go when it comes to Islam....

Re: Danes face growing Muslim storm

Who says that you let it go... There are ways to protest..
Now I am not a scholar, though my hunch is all these anti-semitic and jew laws would have come in action after WW II. Now that's what made Europe really go through pain.
Again, who is saying you let go. People are only questioning the method and intensity of the protest.........

Re: Danes face growing Muslim storm

True. But given the political climate of today, a picture showing the prophet (pbuh) with a bomb on his head is not just for chuckles. It's incitement. Every country has laws against inciting the public.

Only a blind fool would actually think this is about expression. Needless to say, even free expression is not consequence free. Thus, the boycott is fine by me. And for the most part, that is what is being advocted in addition to a chorus of diplomatic protest.

Not that this is what is grabbing the headlines, but what can one do when there are vested interests...

Protested so violently? What you are seeing is the exception to the rule, dude. Condemn it, but to treat it as normative is wishful thinking (and that's sad...).

Needless to say, you're simply not convincing...so what of Christians remain silent? It wasn't always like that...and I don't think it's really a good thing that they've been silenced and castrated to the extent that they won't even say a wimper.

Demanding civil behavior, even if it is with forceful rhetoric, is right. No matter what creed you follow.

I have a hard time the people we allegedly should be concerned about are impartial or unbiased in this matter. Rather, we will look after ourselves...and so long as the lesson is learned that this world is much smaller than we think, and that free speech has (gasp!) consequences, the better we'll all be.

It's for this reason why I support the Western world in it's criticism of the Arab media for it's racist depictions of Jews, that go far beyond commenting on the illegal and brutal occupation of Palestinian lands.

And btw, I do remember Hindu's rioting over a painting of a god not too long ago. Then there's the valentine's day protests...and it still is the case in certain areas of India that if a Muslim is caught eating beef...it means trouble.

Just as Muslims in India needed to learn how to respect Hindu sensitivities, such lessons need to be applied on a global scale.

Re: Danes face growing Muslim storm

I think I have made my points, and now we will get in discussion which will go nowhere.......... since we will take postions and just harden our stands.......

Re: Danes face growing Muslim storm

The Danes, by law, can not punish the paper. But they can distance themselves from it...

I'm sure you'd agree that what is irksome is how the Danish PM refused to even comment on the issue other than expressing the "right" of the paper to publsh racist, demeaning and inciteful pictures. A forceful message that this was a disgusting act was called for, but the Danish PM reacted arrogantly not only to the Muslim community at large, but even those in Denmark.

What is irksome is that these pictures, allegedly used as a litmus test for free expression, were published twice...a clear act of provocation.

Muslim reaction to the first publication was measured and diplomatic.

The second publishing, and subsequent publishing in other European newspapers.

What's the saying? Fool me once...shame on you, fool me twice shame on me...

Let's just say, we're not about to be fooled a second time...freedom my arse...
