ooo shay.. have u ever tried mehndi-ing ur hair.. my devarani ahem ahem introduced me to it and since then my hair has been soooo good to me.. she adds coffee, olive oil, egg yolk to the mehndi and soaks it overnight.. and then mixes it with water to make a paste and applies it to her hair for 3-4 hrs.. u might want to use a shower cap so that it doesnt fall on ur clothes.. oo and the shade of brown u get when ur in the sun is just gorgeous!!! :D
shay are you on some sort of medication , maybe this is a side effect. A rinse with vinegar is a home remedy but maybe that will be too harsh for the condition you have.
no medication.. i just went to the derm randomly to get my birthmark checked and he told me about the dandruff thing.

i was actually discussing it with sgc and khadija in the other thread about applying mehndi and it seems it wont work for me :(
Shampoo's don't stay in u're too long to have much of an effect (dandruff) but Nizorol really works! And shay do use dabur vatika neem and lemon oil atleast 3 times a week. My dadi also use to tell a cousin of mine to massage her scalp with normal table salt before a shower.. that worked for her as well. It works like an exfoliant!
^lol thanks gina!
well guess what, since im a sucker for oils, during a trip to the desi store a few months back, i bought about 4 or 5 different kinds of hair oils (most of them were dabur vatika) and while searching through them last night, i found the neem and lemon one! i’ll be getting the shampoo today as well and start the remedy soon, iA!
^ yea, i would try just sticking with one thing to begin with. use the nizoral twice in a week for two weeks which should clear up the problem. after that alternate between the nizoral and oils.
i used nizoral years ago but forgot about it when the problem turned up again earlier this year. i tried everything. using baby shampoo and then going on to shampoos without SLS (as i thought this might be the cause), oiling my scalp, changing my diet. it was just by chance that when i went to the doc for something else, i asked her to have a look at my scalp and she prescribed it. it cleared up so fast it was unbelievable. i think i fell for all the scaremongering about SLS because i'm sure nizoral contains the same amount as a regular shampoo - and you're leaving it on your scalp for up to 5 minutes! my hair had also been falling out like crazy, once the scalp was treated the hair fall went back to normal too.
thanks guys,
you have really gotten my hopes up.. lol.. im really touchy about my hair and even though this dandruff thing is probably not a big deal, i hate that i have it
^ it's a normal shampoo but i don't like using it on all my hair. once my hair is wet, i get some on my hand and massage it directly onto my scalp. i use small amounts and do it 2-3 times (on different parts of my head) to make sure the whole scalp is covered properly. then leave it on and wait for 3-5mins. rinse well. basically your scalp and roots will have now been shampooed pretty thoroughly. then just go ahead and use your regular shampoo like normal, from the scalp and throughout the length! no more dandruff and shiny clean hair!
i took some advice from some one on GS a few weeks ago on how to keep my hair in good condition, she advised me to use three oils (coconut, olive and almond) i never get dandruf, but since i have been using it i have noticed i have flacky bits in my hair....
i think its the coconut , problem is how do i get rid of it now?
^lol. have you stopped using it? maybe it will correct itself after a while?
personally, i've never felt it's been a good idea to douse the scalp with too much oil, just like too much shampoo or soap is no good for the scalp/skin either!
maybe just use the oils in the length of your hair to keep it soft and shiny.
and just as a general point, when people observe a improvement in their hair (roots wise), it's not really down to the oils but rather the massaging of the scalp that's involved. you can spend a few minutes every night giving yourself a scalp massage with the tips of your fingers!
^ thanx Stoppit :) i have stoped using the oils now, it did make my hair shiny and soft. but its just this week i noticed the flakes on my scalp. will try the massaging thnx. X

i have dandruff from having OILY hair/scalp..i dont know how that happens but a day after a wash my hair my scalp gets kind of itchy and i start scratching and i get this weird oily/dandruffy thing on my fingers from my scalp. then when i brush my hair i can see little dandruffy flakes around my hair it looks ugly. i have used pure mustard oil in my hair before but it doesn't seem to help. can anyone recommend anything for my condition?
