my family is moderate but girls dance. However when there's only girls or just mahrem men. We're not allowed to dance at the mehndi when the guys are dancing until alllll the guests leave.

Re: Dancing on wedding in pakistan

thank you for ur replies. I know it sounded very silly my question.

What Soconfused is saying. My family has same values i assume... my mom told me girls do dance if there is only family (also family men), but the thing is on mehndi's there are also men from the other 'party'.... Since the mehndi functions in our family have been all together, my cousin sisters did not dance at all. Which i think is really sad... and no fun at all to me! How can u do it different??

:/

Re: Dancing on wedding in pakistan

I've seen a few things in my family and my circle of friends (who are the same level of conservative as me).

1) the men are in a different room the entire time
2) the men are told to leave when the dancing starts so it's just girls
3) the boys do their dancing with everyone and then the guests all leave and only the "ghar walay" are left (the opposite party's men and guests will leave after a whlie also) then at THAT point, the girls dance.

We had an issue with my friend having a mixed mehndi and her cousins and uncles were there. Even though theyre like family to me, I don't feel comfortable dancing in front of them so my other friends--who shared the same sentiment--ended up dancing at one of the mannnnny dholkis/mayoon.

Re: Dancing on wedding in pakistan

You can keep the dance session after dinner/ meal when most of the guest kha pee k chale jate hain and only the close one's left (of both the families). that's what done by some of my relatives, who didnot want their family girls to dance infront of evrybody, and fully enjoyed the event till wee hours of night...

Re: Dancing on wedding in pakistan

my nani is religious so no i dont dance but if its jst the girls then a bit of luddi and booty shaking is ok.....but yes people do dance :D

Re: Dancing on wedding in pakistan

Re: Dancing on wedding in pakistan

Do people really have to dance?

Dancing around non-mahram man s a BIG no!

By the way, cousins (Chacha ka beta and Aunty ka beta, etc) are non-mahram. It seems us Pakistani treat them like our blood brothers...rolleyes
