No, its not because of the 'spread of Islam', it's just Pakistani mentality. A lot of them don't quite know what their identity is. They try to shun and ignore their past and try to pretend to be what they're not. I have heard plenty of people with surnames such as Raja, Chaudry etc, saying that they are Rajput or Jatt, then saying 'my ancestors came from Arabia' or 'my ancestors came from Persia and were Arab before'. Like any of that makes sense.

And yes it is pathetic.

It's not just Pakistanis that happened almost everywhere were Islam spread. Persians got rid of a lot of their Zoroastrian ancestral stuff. Same with North African cultures. It probably is the worst amongst Pakistanis/Desi muslims. Do not get offended as I am not saying anything against the religion itself.

***Chintu Sahib.......there was a documentary TV show recorded some time in the 70's or 80's where famous Actor Peter Ustinov made a railroad journey through Rajistan, India.................the locals were proud of the Satti tradition amoung the Rajput Elite!

Whether we can believe the documentary or not that is another thing!

That's really not true at all.

Out of all the converted groups, the Persians are probably the ones who:
- Have managed to retain as much of their pre-Islamic culture as possible. To this day, Persians celebrate many Zoroastrian holidays (with nominal Islamization), still marry in traditional Zoroastrian ceremonies (again nominally Islamized), etc...
- Have the most disdain for the Arabs and their culture. The average Pakistani would consider being called an "Arab" a compliment...while in Persian culture, it would be considered a huge insult.

wouldnt it be much better if u handle religious topics in religous ways instead of just beating about the bushes???

Wat quran says about multiple wives is

"Marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one."

y we all guys ignore the last part of the verse that tells about being just between em. do u think if u have more than one wives the life for ur wives is gona be same as if u did have only one wife??
if i remember my childhood it was great, ONE happy small family, but if i look at the life of my cousins who had moms, there life was like hell, or i should say its still a hell, APPARENTLY my uncle tries to be totally just and reasonable but the two wives are not happy and they keep on fighting and guess who is suffering the most?? THE KIDS.

and now read wat Quran says in the same Chapter again :)
"Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women...."

some guys are gona be more inclined towards one wife cuz she looks cuter, some are gona be cuz she is more religous, some are gona be cuz she is better with sex, some are gona be cuz gives a great or atleast better moral support. its human nature :)

so my understanding of the whole issue as a student of islam is that multiple wives are MUBAH (permissible, not fard or mustahab) is for certain conditions not just for the pleasure of man or if he doesn wana live with one wife for the rest of his life as the thread starter mentioned.

now please dont come and start bashing me, i just mentioned my understanding of the whole thing.

Actually, you got me wrong. It is our ‘perception’ of Pakistani society that hindu culture is inferior. This despise is taught at every level of education and upbringing that muslim identity is superior and our culture is differenet.

The ideology contains an inherent flaw in it. As a result young minds starts looking toward arab culture and equate it with islam.

The most screwed up thing is the adaptation of hijaab ( an arabic dress article) by girls raised in west and thinking that wearing it is obligatory in islam. If you or any one else goes up to hijaabi girls ( the girls who wear that dress article as part of islamic dress code sanctioned for women) and offer them :

A hat
Or
A chadar
Or
A dopatta
Or
A Chunri

And asked:

Dear Muslim girl ! would you like to take off your hijaab ocasionally and wear any of these cultural dresses which are made to enhance modesty and cover your hair, head etc.

Their answer would most like be negative becasue they consider only hijab as islamic dress (which is actually an arab dress) and all other dress as inferior cultural dress which are not stamped as ISLAMIC DRESS.

This is a wide spread mindset among desi folk, even the most revered scholar would recommend Arabic dresses ( abaya, burqa , niqaab and hijab ) as islamic dresses.

So once we want girls and women to follow arab culture then why bar us men from doing the same ???

Polygamy is arab culture and 4 marraiges are allowed in islam but society does not permit muslim men doing so in pakistan. Why ? In my view the affluent people should be encouraged to practice polygamy so that they should support more families , in this poverty rich county :k:

Monogamy is hindu culture and the philosophy i.e janam janam ka saath etc

Why muslim women of pakistan are encouraged to follow arab culture and told that it is perfectly islamic but muslim men of pakistan try to follow suit , they are condemned. Why this double standard ?
